Just got back from an OA retreat

  • I've just returned home after spending the weekend with other OAers from all over Northern California, and some beyond. It was fantastic.

The "theme" of the retreat was Going Back to Basics. We covered the Big Book and 12 steps in the same way that was done back in the 1940's at AA Beginners meetings. We went through each of the 12 steps. I really enjoyed it. I love the Big Book and always learn something new.

What I personally got out of the weekend was the willingness to get an AA sponsor and begin work on that program. It has been sitting stagnant for months, and I no longer "recoil from alcohol as if from a hot flame" nor do I have freedom from the obsession. So, it's time to get to work. The 12 steps are a program of ACTION. Not a program of reading about it and thinking about it. I actually have to DO something to stay in recovery.

I am so thankful for my change of heart and new found willingness. God is awesome.
