How do you find a race?

  • I was just thinking it might be fun to enter a race. Last May I had challenged myself to be able to run five miles. It took me seven months, but I worked my way up from one mile at 5.0 mph on the treadmill to five miles at 6.7 on the treadmill. Since then, I've been able to get up to running 6.11 miles in 54 minutes (yesterday!) and I realized that's awful close to 10K.

So how do you find out where and when there will be races in your area? Are there websites dedicated to this information or do you have to watch the boards at the gym or is it luck of the draw?

I'm doubting I'll be able to find anything here, but I thought it would be good to know of a race database or something for the future.

    Thanks!

  • I look on http://www.runnersworld.com or http://www.coolrunning.com.

That's what I do too. I usually will get several relevant hits. We have two major race organizers in the city, plus the calendar of downtown events, and often the organization that benefits from a run as well.

Also, if you have a running store near you, races may be posted there as well.
  • Also check with your local running club(s). Find the clubs by googling.
