  • Ok, this may not sound like much to alot of you, but I made it through my first whole day of dieting for the first time in 3 years. It was so hard trying to stick to any kind of eating plan while on 1.) fertility meds and then 2.) antidepressants. I'm just very very proud of myself. It always felt like to me if I could just make it through the first day then I have already won part of the battle.

    What do you guys think?
  • I think you're a WINNER!!!

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step! And you have taken it!

Keep going! you can do it!

  • Good job, like lots of things, it is one day at a time...and before you know it you will be maintaining.
  • that's great!!! i know exactly how you feel i'd been telling myself i'd 'start tomorrow' for like 3 years. once you get started though, it's easier... you sorta decide that you don't want tomorrow to negate all the hard work you did today... know what i mean? good job and stick with it!
  • yay for you!
  • congratulations!!
  • Way to go!

What is it about your eating plan that makes it hard to stick to even for a single day? Permanent weight loss involves permanent change - it should be something you don't overly struggle with. After years of deprivation diets, I finally told myself - eat enough calories every day and eat food I like. Now, I eat every 2 hours and look forward to all my meals. It made a big difference. I never thought I would love fresh raspberries and non fat greek yogurt more than a scone, but it's true
  • I think one day under your belt is phenomenal. You've got to start somewhere and day number one is where it's at.

Glory mentions that her plan is easy to stick with. Glory and I actually have very similar "methods" that we stick to. Yes, I have found foods that I love and my tastes have indeed changed, I don't feel deprived because I love what I'm eating and I eat about every 2 hours and am never hungry because I'm eating enough. It certainly makes "sticking" to plan seem almost easy.

But I will say this, the first couple of weeks WERE difficult. It IS a switch and it DOES take some adjusting to. Stick to it NO MATTER WHAT those first couple of weeks. Make yourself a deal, a promise, a whatever. Be NIKE. JUST DO IT. But please, please know that after those first couple of weeks it gets sooo much easier. You WILL get used to it. I know you think it's not possible - but it is. You will eventually, and it doesn't take all that long, get used to your new lifestyle. You will grow to love your new way of eating way more then your old. And it is the most worthwhile thing you can do.

    Good luck to you.
  • That is a big deal! Good job, keep up the good work!
  • The first day is the WORST day!!! Stick around here tho and things get alot better!!!!
    Welcome aboard!

I totally agree with Robin here. The first couple weeks were tough for me, but changing habits you have had for years *is* hard. The good news is that it DOES get easier. I am actually craving the good food that I am eating these days.

If you have to break it down to days...then do it. One day at a time. You will get there. Just stick to it! You have taken the first step. It gets so much easier with each passing day!!

    Good Luck!
  • Here's what I think: ROCK ON! \m/ The fact you can do it for one day means you can do it for another, and another, and another after that.
  • Thanks, you guys! You are all very sweet to take time to encourage me. I think my main problem was that I used to expect too much of myself when dieting, you know? Like thinking I could go from one day eating whatever I want to the next day eating basically starving myself. Our bodies just aren't meant to do that! So that's why I decided this time to make it simpler, take small steps, and make it PERMANENT!
  • CONGRATULATIONS! They say that the first step is the hardest. And I recognize how hard it is to stick with a diet while depressed and on anti-depressants (I deal with this, too)...I haven't had any experience with fertility meds, but boy do I have experience with depression. The fact that you have went through all of this makes the victory all the more sweet! You should be very proud of yourself. You can do it!
