question I would ask my sponsor if I had one

  • Hello again.

Many people have said something to the effect of starting abstinence with three meals a day, nothing in between. Marny even said her early three meals were like banquets.

My question is.... Should there be a time range for each? Like breakfast needs to be eaten by a certain time or needing to allow a certain number of hours between meals?

    Thanks!
  • Hey Beverly-

Yes, yes, yes. Eating meals at the same time every day helps your body to begin to trust you. It needs to know that it will be fed at the same time everyday in order to relax between meals. I ask my sponsees to commit to one hour time frames for their meals which should be eaten whether they are hungry or not.

    For example:
    Breakfast between 7-8

    lunch between 12-1

    dinner between 5-6

Sometimes when a sponsee begins program, they still have a "diet" mentality about their food plan. Many times they try to skip meals or planned snacks due to this. If you skip meals some days, how is your body going to learn to trust your new eating schedule??
  • Good advice. Thank you.

Though I understand scientifically the need for breakfast, I've never been a breakfast eater, so this is hard for me. I'm working on it!
  • This isn't a question for me, specifically. My cousin is on OA, and she does the no sugar/flour thing. Can anyone remind me of the food categories for lunchtime? I've asked her a bunch of times, and I always forget what her meal categories/amounts are.

    Thanks for your help.
  • Trixiepup-

Hi there. There is no way for me or anyone else on this board to know what your cousin's food plan is. Each person develops their own eating plan with the help of their sponsor. What may be a good food plan for your cousin, may or may not be good for you.

OA does not tell us what to eat or when to eat. OA teaches us how to refrain from compulsive overeating.

So, you'll need to ask her for the specifics of her program.
