A very mini goal—1st 10% gone

  • 291 (10% off my start weight of 323) was the first major goal I've been shooting for, and this morning marked 290, 33 big ones gone for good. If it weren't for my mystery gastritis in December and 3FC, I wouldn't be feeling so good right now.

33 pounds is so little off my very fat frame, and it's still more than 40 pounds higher than my highest remembered weight but the NSVs are still noticeable: when I gave blood last week, I had no trouble sitting back up afterwards (whereas before I struggled to rise to a sitting position on the hard table); no new sizes yet, but everything I was busting out of fits again, and a few pairs of jeans I bought not realizing I was too big for them fit fine now. Things like that.

Here's looking forward to 262, the next 10% goal.
  • Congratulations Luminous!

You know, if you calculate it as a percentage of the weight you want to lose (rather than of your starting weight), you're actually just under 20% -- that's 1/5 of the way there!! Keep up the great work!
  • That is by no means a little accomplishment. It's PHENOMENAL!!!! I am soooo very happy for you. I've been reading your posts lately and they tell me that things have really "clicked" for you. Which is fantastic. I have no doubt whatsoever this is the first of many mini-goals for you to achieve.

I'm so happy about your NSV's as well. They are just going to keep on piling up now. And they are so incredibly enjoyable. Keep up the amazing work!
  • That is wonderful!!! I think it is so cool when someone else reaches such a cool milestone ~ we're gonna do it!!
  • You tricked me with your title! That is a HUGE accomplishment! Give yourself a pat on the back!
  • Congrats!
Hooray for you! You've inspired me to reach for that as an interim mini-goal. My 10% goal number is 283. I'm going to try and reach that before St. Patrick's day.
  • Congratulations! That is a great goal. Just think of all the good things you're doing for your health!
  • Thank you all.

I dig the "10% of your body weight" goals. I even read a bit of medical advice somewhere that said the best way to make the weight loss stick is to lose 10% of your body weight, maintain that for six months, then lose the next 10%, and so on. I'm a bit impatient though—and frankly I can't maintain my current weight eating whole, nourishing foods; I'd have to throw in calorie-dense junk to do it...and that would be a bit pointless—so onward and downward. Each 10% is planned out based on something like a pound a week, so I can feel really cool reaching it early...and if by some twist of fate I don't meet it, no sweat, sit back and figure out why and adjust. Next 10% is due by 8/13/07.
  • Congartulations!!!!
  • Yay Amy!
  • Congrats!!! That's a huge accomplishment!!! WTG!!
