  • I'm 50 now and have been battling my weight since I was 13.I had a lap-band put in Nov.5,2002.It was great for 1 1/2 years until stress struck.I was over eating and throwing up everthing.I asked the Dr. about un-filling the band.He said yes maybe I just needed a break. After gaining back almost all the weight I had it re-filled.I first did group counsling and it really helped me deal with issues that was making me eat for comfort.I did learn and it has helped more than I ever thought it would, was to journal. Now I have this web site to help. When I read other people struggle as I do I realize I'M NOT ALONE in this battle! So,EVERYONE I'm here to stay and I need your support and prayers!
  • Hello, and welcome.

I am quite new here myself and I have found it a really valuable tool, I hope you will too.

The site is full of great ideas from lovely people, amazing support and plenty to laugh at or cry with. Log on whenever you are feeling that the dieting is just that bit too much and the forums can really help give you a boost - they certainly do me.

I'm sure you can do it!

Here's wishing you all the luck and motivation in the world.

  • Welcom IlerJo. You have come to a great place for support, advice and encouragement.

I think I can safely say that we all know what you are going through. It is a lifelong struggle this weight thing. We are all in this together and we're here for you. Looking forward to getting to know you.
  • Welcome!!!
  • Hi Iler Jo!

Welcome! I echo my forum buddies in saying that this IS a great place and one that can be a real help to you no matter where you are in your weight loss journey!

A journal can be SO helpful! I'm on journal SIX already! This morning after my workout I re-read some of my first journal. What an eye-opener! It's interesting to find out where your head was at the time you wrote the entries! What things do you include in YOUR journal? I not only record my stats, but I also write down how I am feeling at the time. I include my successes for that day that aren't always measured by a scale. It's good.

I'm 55, so I have an idea of some of the challenges that come about with age. There's always hope for tomorrow, though, no matter what! You can do this, and we will be right there along with you!

  • Looking forward to getting to know you and providing mutual support and encouragement...and definitely, prayers.
  • Thanks so much for welcome-ing me.
  • Welcome! I'm also in my 50s so I know what it's like, and I'm here to say it can be done. Looking forward to reading more about you, and watching your ticker go down.
  • Hello and Welcome!!
  • Hi Ilerjo,

Welcome to the site - I'm relatively new here myself and have learnt a lot from just reading discussions - it's always interesting stuff that gets raised here.

I think you raise a distinction between weight problems and eating problems that lead to being very overweight. It sounds like you've had help to address the latter. Did you find group counselling helpful? I had individual therapy and I found it very helpful. I think I always tried to approach my weight loss by fixing my 'weight problem' - by dieting, etc. But eventually realised I had to address the reasons why I overate and it was only then that I really started to make headway with the weight loss. I think we've all tried things that haven't worked for us because the real root cause isn't address - I'm glad that you are finally getting the right kind of support.

  • Welcome !!!
  • Hello Iler, I'm new too, so maybe we can buddy up. I started South Beach 4 weeks ago today. I haven't weighed this week (I weigh on Tuesdays), but I had lost 22 lbs. in 3 weeks. My blood sugar has dropped so much that I didn't even have to take 1 shot all day & have discontinued my oral meds to keep from going too low! A month ago I was taking 4-5 shots per day & 3 different pills & my sugar was never below 200 (not for 2 years). Anyway, I say all this to say that I believe there is one program (or lifestyle) that will work for all of us, we just have to find the one that works the best for us. For me & my life, this is working right now. I am no longer overwhelmed by how much I have to lose or how long it's going to take. I am thankful for the site & the opportunity to meet people who can encourage me when I'm not doing as well. I will pray for you.
