Shoot, I missed the backstory on the old guy but I did get to hear him sing and see his graceful exit. I have to admit that I like that old type of music from the 50's and 60's because that's my parents' era and when they made me take piano lessons I had a whole book filled with music like that.
Allison, your TV sounds like a Sony... is it? We've had two that did that.

Hi melekalikimaka!
The older guy's wife had cancer. He said that they both knew that he was too old to be an American Idol, but that the process of him getting people to sign his petition (300-some signatures which he brought with him) of people who said that he SHOULD BE ALLOWWED TO AUDITION, made his wife feel happy and kept her feeling positive about her cancer. He said that his wife had just died a few days before the auditions. The song that he sung was dedicated to her.
Very, very sweet that guy!
Afterwards he said that he was so thankful that he got to audition and that he felt he WAS a winner after the experience.
I was so thankful that Simon restrained any snide comments about this one! This audition was so much more than just an audition!
Cheryl

Thanks Cheryl, that was awesome. Now I'm sad I missed it, but at least I heard him sing. What a sweet guy.

I may be switching my FAVORITE after last nights show and seeing Bailey (the sophisticated cowgirl) the one Simon said was a natural pop diva. I can't decide between Jamie, the Shakira look a-like, or Bailey....aw what the heck! I'll root for all of them!!

Well there were a few surprises last night. I guess the pressure is on and some of them just can't hack it. We will find out tonight who the finalists will be.

OK ~ So I know 2 of MY PERSONAL top 3 are gone, Bailey and Petra...but I am not sure about Jamie. It's OBVIOUS that American Idol is RIGGED!
However ~ I always have the right to change my mind! Plus, I haven't really seen ALL the contestants anyway...

It seemed really rushed and they didn't show a lot of the favourites from the first round.

I agree, Clydegirl--I don't recall all of Hollywood Week being crammed into a single 1-hour episode in the past. Don't they usually stretch it out and show a bit more? I seem to be able to recall almost an entire episode or 2 devoted just to the group competitions in the past

Well we're down to the final 24. So who are your favourites?
I like Chris the funny guy and Lakisha.

I was a little surprised at the picks last night, especially when they went with the two at the end. I would have picked opposite. Of what is left to choose from:
MY FINAL 3 ~ ALAINA ~ HALEY and ANTONELLA

No guys
I agree thought the pairs at the end would have gone the other way.

I thought the same thing on the pairs at the end. I was surprised they kept Sundance. He was great in first audition but the other guy last night did better than him in Hollywood and was sent home. Right now my favorite guy is the one that missed his wife having the new baby. I'm mostly undecided on which is my favorite girl.
