How to avoid the rush hour slump??

  • I often find my self very sleepy on my drive home (around 4:30-5:00 pm) and just crash when I get home. Most nights I find my self asleep on the couch until 9!!!

Any thoughts on how to avoid this "crash"?

I make a point to eat something around 3:00 pm (apple, cleminetines, almonds or yogurt usually) but it doesn't seem to help?!
  • I have the same drive home everyday. i find that it helps to turn the music up and sing along. Also when you get home make yourself workout for a bit, it makes me much more energized for the night.
  • I used to fall asleep nearly everyday between 4 and 7 pm. I had been like that since HS and thought that was just the way I was.

When I started changing my lifestyle I found I was much less likely to get sleepy when I ate healthy foods midday, especially foods with protein and fiber. Now I find that a small piece of cheese can help fend off the sleepy feeling. I always thought I was tired, now I think I was HUNGRY.

So, you may be on to something with the food, but maybe you need the right food at the right time. In addition to that healthy 3pm snack, what does the rest of your day look like? Are you eating enough?
  • Are you sleeping enough at night? Exercise? I agree that cheese (string cheese for me!) does the trick.
