My intro

  • Hello ladies, just wanted to introduce myself. I am 26 years old, and tired of being fat! I've never been thin before. To make matters worse, doc says I'm not ovulating and I want babies! My doc wanted me to do Atkins. I tried Atkins, but I don't like meat that much, and I have yucky side effects between that and the medication I'm taking (Metformin). I tried doing South Beach, but it was still too low in carbs to counteract the side effects. My doc wanted me to consider going on WW but I'm too cheap to pay for something like that, so I figured this would be a great support group! So I've decided to go with the Wild Oats superfoods healthy eating plan. It emphasizes whole foods and lower in calories than what I am sure that I usually take in. I'm also writing EVERYTHING I eat down in a journal. I weighed in at the doctor last Monday at 346 (highest weight) and bought a new scale yesterday. I weighed myself today and 337! Woohoo! Now I know that most if not all of that is going to be water, and there is always the difference between the doc's scale and mine, but I do *feel* better, and it's motivation! My big obstacle is going to be getting exercise. We live in the country, and I work 10 hour days. Our commute is almost an hour both ways. This doesn't leave a lot of time for anything! I used to walk during my lunch, but I got horrible painful blisters. After Xmas I plan on buying better shoes so that I can start walking again. I love to do yoga and am learning belly dancing. Maybe I'm nuts trying to start this right before Xmas, but I don't want to put it off any longer! My husband Jason is going to start after the holidays, so we get to do this together! But he is very supportive of me, I couldn't ask for anything more! Well, except to maybe fit into a pair of size 10 jeans...
  • Welcome to 3FC!

We sound very alike.... same reasons as you to me wanting to lose weight, I am also on Metformin....

Maybe we can support each other!
  • Thanks for the welcome Mazarin. Did the doc put you on Met to stimulate ovulation too? I used to have irregular periods regularly, nowthey are just way out of whack! So here's hoping it will help. If I don't have an improvement by about Feb or March I'll probably go on Clomid. Whoppee!
  • Melissa - This is such a great place for support. It sounds like you have a good eating plan to start with. Whole foods and watching portions is a great way to go. With exercise, it will be tough to start, but once you get going it really pays for itself in energy. I feel so much better than I did when I didn't exercise. I sleep better and get up earlier on weekends. The important thing is to start with something even if it is only 10 minutes a day. Also, we have an exercise thread and you are welcome to join there. I find it very motivating to add in my minutes.
  • Welcome, Melissa!!
  • Melissa, Do you have PCOS?

Just wanted to give you a short little welcome and tell you GOOD LUCK!!
  • Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Erika- I do not have PCOS, per se, but I have irregular ovulation and facial hair growth, so my doc though Met would be a good choice to start.
  • Those are alot of the common symptoms of PCOS. Have you been able to ask the dr if you have PCOS??

Try to see about getting the test done for this. It can cause alot of health and weight problems. Not to mention the infertility issues that it can cause.

We do have a PCOS section here. http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=70 Just by the little bit of information that I've read from your post, you sound like you have it.

Hope things get better for you! I should be on met in the next few days!!

    (((HUGS)))

  • Good morning Erika!

I have had many many ultrasounds and tests and my ovaries are fine, I just have other PCOS symptoms. I am lucky because I have a great doctor who really wants me to get pregnant, and isn't really put off by my weight, she just wasn't happy with the weight gain that I showed up with, but I've almost taken that all back off. But thanks for the info and the support!
  • Your welcome!! Just please check out that site. There are alot of women that don't have cyst on their ovaries. *I don't!!* and still have PCOS.

I'm not trying to pressure you, just want to let you know that.

Congrats on the loss and I hope that you like it here.
