Hi! just starting & need support please

  • Hi, I am 29 and 230lbs, I am just starting a low carb, gluten free diet and am finding this sooo difficult. I had to quit working due to naussia, drowsyness headachs, etc. I was afraid to drive to work and back, so now i am just sitting at home getting fatter!
I have celiac's and have been on gluten free diets befor but always "fall of the waggon" so to speak. I also have hypothyroid (hashimotos) and recently descoverd this could be effected by celiac's so Im quitting the gluten yet again. I dont have any friends here for support and husband is definately a bad influence, He doesnt understand celiac's or hypothyriod, he eats things I can't have infront of me all the time and doesnt think its a big deal.
I know the first few weeks are going to be the hardest so I'll be trying to find support elsewhere.
I have also been fighting with depression for many years. I know I'm not the only person with these problems trying to lose weight and it's nice to know there are groups like this for support. I need to get my health back and weight under control so I can go back to work or live any kind of decent life.

  • Hey there, welcome to 3FC! I joined in Jan 06' and attribute all my success to the wonderful support I've gained here. We each have issues and obstacles to deal with/over come while trying to lose weight and totally understand why anyone would seek some support from others who actually understand. I belong to a thread in the Support Groups forums called, 1lb. Down and Plenty More To Go. A great bunch of ladies who love to welcome new faces. If you're interested come check us out. All the best to you!
  • welcome.. maybe you should find some info on the net about your conditions.. & what u can / cant eat.. and ask him to not eat it in front of you.... or make sure ur having a treat u can have..... at the start anyway...

maybe take him to ur doctors... get some advice from them...

but im sure you will be feeling better with your new diet...
and weight loss will come with eating better.. and feeling better

Go for it you can do it!...
  • Hi. I am sorry you are having such a rough time right now. I wonder if you have an anxiety disorder since you mentioned fear of driving. I have a fear of driving over bridges, but I do it anyway and talk my way through it. I always worry about getting in a car accident and not being able to help my 5-year-old son. I have Anxiety/Panic Disorder, but I do not take medication now and I am OK most of the time.

As for husbands, I think most are like yours. My husband orders pizza when I am on a diet and he knows I love pizza. Sometimes I give in and just have one piece and other times I don't eat any. It's hard though. He's overweigt, too, but not ready to do anything about it. He says he' s going to start Jan. 1, but he had said that before only to eat healthy for 1-2 days and then give up.

Anyway, I hope you can find the support you need here. If you need a buddy, let me know.
  • Thanks Everybody. I think this site will be a great help to me

Ladylai: I couldn't find the forum, 1lb. Down and Plenty More To Go. Im just not sure how to use the site yet I guess?

I have found a lot of info on my conditions. I do a lot of reading. I think the only way my husband learns anything is if he sees it on TV.
Lucky for him He's not overweight He just eats whatever he wants and lots of it!

Melody, I would love to have a buddy! It may take some time for me to figure out how to navigate this site. I'm already confused!
