I recieved my band in April of this year, Got married in October and I just found out im six weeks pregnant! Im so nervous about gaining the 50 pounds i just recently lost. If anyone has had a baby after there surgery and can give me any advice about how it turned out i would appreciate it. Im so excited though this will be my first child. But I do worry about the baby growing in there with the band.

ok darlin. congratulations on all fronts! baby time is sooo exciting. you've told your surgeon [about the pregnancy], right? and your pcp [about everything]? and your OB [about the surgery], right?

bottom line, you really shouldn't have too much of a problem. you'll have to be careful about eating [of course], and vitamins [of course], just like every single other pregnant woman on the planet.

but you might also need a bit more monitoring. pregnancy is harder after the gastric bypass than after the lapband, so you should be ok.

I had stomach stapling done 20 years ago and got pregnant just 3 months later. Between the pregnancy and the teentsy pouch, I had the most ghastly morning sickness! But I gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

To be honest, the pregnancy did throw me off course, and it took several years to get back on. However, I have maintained a healthy weight for 9 years now.

Just stay in communication with your surgeon and your OB doc, do what they say and you and baby should be fine!

You and the baby should be fine with the band. Just make sure your getting enough nutrition for the both of you. You might need to get unfilled to do so, so check with your doctor. I know a few ladies that had good pregnancies w/the band.

I haven't had surgery, so i guess i'm not a huge help there, but i successfully lost weight while pregnant, and when i gave birth? Instantly lost another 30 pounds! yay! LOL. You need to be MORE aware of the nutrition in everything you eat, and make sure you do the right vitamins and suppliments, but you should really have no troubles whatsoever. Your body is actually going to pull everything from you, to give to your baby first and foremost. That's why women end up with dry hair, brittle nails, and often weaker teeth. DO NOT fall into the 'i'm eating for 2' mentality. Keep up your great change in food attitude and diet, and you and baby will both have a great 10 months!

Congradulations. For what I've heard and I don't know a lot about this, you should be fine. I'm assuming all the doctors know everything.

Question, I know you don't want to gain back weigth and I've only heard this in a seminar, but can't the lapband be lossened so you can take in more during the time you are pregant?

i had my lapband surgery 3 and a half years ago and have lost 84lbs so far
six months after my lapband op i got pregnant, everything went fine with the baby but i did put all my weight loss back on, you have to be really carefull and work really hard, congratulations with the baby!

Thanks for all your support. I am currently 10 weeks and it has been difficult with all the vomitting morning, afternoon, and night I have managed to lose about 6 pounds. More annoying is the spitting constantly. To answer your question Wlssurgery I can get the band losened but right now there is no need. The smell of food repulses me and sends me running to the bathroom. Im just ready to even be able to keep my food down at this point.

I'm glad things are going well (well you know what I mean lol puke eeeewww), take a good vitamin and things should go fine.

My sis in law had gastric bypass and was preg in 3 months. She lost weight during the pregnancy and had a healthy 8 pound baby boy. She is soooo skinny now, I wish my UHC would cover the surgery for me.

Thank you so much skinny teacher That is very encouraging I did go to the ob last week and heard the heart beat and she confirmed that the baby was eating so I am pleased and a bit more relaxed. I am glad to hear that your sis was still able to lose weight after as well. Good luck to you and your weight loss goal!

P.S. I got my appetite back and able to keep down food. But Im always hungry! So wish me luck I have to watch what I eat carefully now so I dont gain to much.

I've heard that some women with the band need to take anti nausea medications because a lot of vommitting can contribute to slippage. Not sure how true that is though. I don't have my band yet- I get in March. One of the reasons is because I want to be able to have a healthier pregnancy weight when I do decide to have kids in a couple of years.
