1st Endo Appt

  • So yesterday I went to my first Endo appt and was told that I was very Insulin Resistant, which I knew...she put me on 2000mgs of glucophage ( or
generic metmorfin ) and I think that sounds really high ... I will be working up to that dosage by the four week method but I still don't know why it is that much, is that normal? How much are you girls taking?

My Dad has diabetes type 2 and he only takes 1000mgs a day, it just seems odd...

Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Carri
  • My 12 yr old daughter is IR and takes 1000 daily. I know adults that take 1500-2000 per day.
  • thanks, this may be TMI but did she experience any of the side effects like diareah and nausea? Or did they go away after a while?
  • Most girls that I know start out on 500 mgs and increase after that depending on how the dr tells them to.

The most common thing that I've seen too is that it messes with your stomach alot.

I should be going on it soon,
  • I started on it a week ago at 500mg and am working up to 2000mg in 4wks.

Today was my first day uping the dosage to 1000mg. The first few days I was on it and then again today I have been extremly sick. Both with vomiting and diarea. Last week I found that in about day 4 I started to handle it a bit better. I meet with my endo in a month to go over the effects it's having on me. Hopefully by then I will be a bit more adjusted and not so sick!

But, 2000mg is what I'm taking. Good luck! I'm right there with ya!!
  • Thanks everyone for your imput, I am not going to start the Met until after Thanksgiving, if it is going to make me sick I do not want to miss out on all the good food !!!

My Dad is on 1000 mgs of Met and never had any side effects, felt perfectly fine, so maybe I will have the same luck.

    have a great Thanksgiving all.
