7 days in and I want to quit!

  • I am sooo tired, I have no energy whatsoever. I can't even find enough energy in me to get to school, much less the gym. I hurt all over from my normal activites (even yoga hurt @_@)

I don't get it. I don't know why I'm so tired. I'm starting to crave things like coffie (I HATE coffie) And I'm getting so tired of beans and tofu that it's starting to taste really nasty to me. and brown rice is starting to make my jaw hurt..( I don't understand THAT at all )

I eat a load of veggies because I'm hungry and I can't stand the thought of more beans or rice. But the veggies never seem to fill me up, I'll be munching none-stop all day long @_@. Fruits are a little out of season in my area and what fruit we do have costs a arm and a leg, so my fruit is limited to apples and bananas (And I really don't like bananas)

gah, things were going so well, but as soon as I started this diet my energy went down hill.. I only went to the gym one day out of the 7 I've been on this diet.
I don't know what is causing me to lose so much energy and to make my body hurt so much. It's just a bit depressing.
  • The first time that I tried Phase 1 I quit at day seven because I was so hungry and tired that I wanted to scream. The second time I was doing fine-up to day 5-because I made sure to eat 1/2 of my allowed oatmeal in the morning and 1/2 of the egg whites. For whatever reason this helped. I don't know if it was the carb/protein combo but it was working. The only reason that I stopped is due to the fact that my uncle died-unexpectedly-and the stress of going home and traveling made it impossible for me to follow through.
I am going to try again starting next Tuesday-have to return for a memorial service for the uncle this weekend and figured that I would just wait.
Also, I ate the second half of the above in the early evening.
I am curious to see others responses.
By the way, where in AZ? I am in AZ, too.
  • Quote: I've been bad, I haven't eaten much, I just haven't been hungry enough.

    I've had a bowl of corn chex cereal, 2% milk..and a banana
tonight I plan on trying to make some meatless chilli.. with Tofu and brown rice. Not sure how it will turn out yet though.
Yesterday I made some super yummy sweet potato fries. I couldn't believe it but they taste so much better than white potato fries. (I cut mine shoestring thin to make them really crispy)

    Hi Sakai!

I posted a quote from you on Nov. 6.....you said that you weren't eating enough because you just hadn't been hungry. Maybe you aren't getting enough calories. You also said that you made sweet potato fries and loved them. How did the chili turn out? Sounds yummy. I went through a couple of days on phase 1 where I didn't have much energy. Come to find out... I wasn't eating enough calories. I also started taking a muti-vitamin. I would recommend this to everyone. That helped a lot.

It sounds like you need some new recipe ideas. Do you cook a lot? I have found that cooking is pretty much essential on this plan. I did a google search for veg. recipes and modified them so that they would fit into phase 1. So, you don't want any more beans or tofu? You can have egg whites for protein. I use egg substitute. I make a baked omelet. It is good. I add veggies and top it with homemade salsa.

You only have 2 more days to go until you can add meat and cheese. You can also add cereal in phase 2.

HANG IN THERE! You have already got 7 days under your belt. I know it is hard. But, you can do this!!! Be sure and drink lots of water. That is a hard one for me.. but I managed to get 60 oz in yesterday.

Just remember that you are not alone in this endeavor. We are here to support you.

  • It sounds like you might not be eating enough. That can make you very tired.

I'm on day 4 and I feel fine but I make sure to eat my oatmeal, egg whites and potatos. It helps fill me up some as well. You didn't mention eating those I would add them in.

Also you can do shakes with the fruits and add the oatmeal to fill you up more. I tried this and you can't taste the oatmeal at all.

If brown rice is getting old try adding EVOO to it and pan frying with egg whites. This tasted a lot better to me.

Also I know it's not allowed but maybe a tablespoon of peanut butter a day will aid in protein for you. My friend is doing that cause she was getting tired as well and it has helped her. It isn't allowed on Phase One so that is something you will have to chose to do.

I hope you stick it out you only have 2 days left until you can get fish or chicken yummmmmyyyyyy!
  • When I said potatos I meant sweet potatos!
  • there is a recipe in the recipe section for baked brown rice. It sounds really good and it may be the change you need. I am going to try it.
  • Sakai - don't quit, you are almost to the next phase! YOU CAN DO IT! I too was tired of everything until I started cooking. I made vegetarian veggie soup - veggie stock, can of tomatoes w/ green chiles, onion, celery carrots - honestly I put everything in the refrig in there and it was great. I put asparagus, zucchini, squash. I used oregano, basil and parlsley to season it up along w/ some seasoned salt. When it was cooked, I took half of it out, put it in the blender w/ some tofu and blended until creamy and then added it back to the pot. It gave it a more creamy texture and it is now one of my favorites. I also added a cup of brown rice for more substance in the soup. My co workers even loved it and they aren't dieting. My first 4 days of detox I was very week and tired, I logged my calories and I was only eating 600-800 per day until I added in grits (I don't like oatmeal so this is my substitute) and rice. I also found soy crisps at the grocery (mine are located near the kosher food & rice cakes) and I eat 8 of them when I feel like I want chips or a snack. You have to get your calories up somehow. I also have a fruit smoothie which picks me up each morning - 1/2 c unflavored nonfat yogurt, 1/2 c fresh squeezed orange juice, 1/2 c of strawberries (I use fresh but you can buy frozen if they are too expensive) and frozen sliced peaches. I have to add a pkg of Splenda to sweeten it but it didn't stop me from losing. 1 orange squeezed is the perfect amoutn of jusice so I go ahead and squeeze 3 or 4 at a tiem and store it so it is faster in the morning. My boyfriend even loves the smoothies because when you use frozen fruit, it has a milkshake taste and texture. I am sure you could use milk as well but I don't like milk and the yogurt makes it thicker. This shake is right at 200-215 calories. Eat fruit like pineapple out of the can, just make sure it is in juice w/ no sugar added. That is how I have been saving money - buying frozen and canned. What about the pizza on the recipes page? That is great! I even fixed the crust alone and made it even thinner to eat like a cracker w/ some hummus. When I made pizza I used tomato paste (I checked the ingredients to make sure no sugar was added) instead of fresh tomatoes and added oregano, hot pepper flakes, basil, garlic powder to my paste. I also used the Veggie Shred mozaarella - it was great. I am using the veggie shreds on my steamed veggies like broccoli and also on top of my soup and chili...its very good. Good luck to you and let us know how you are feeling. You might also try some soy nuts...Wal Mart has them and they are cheap. Good luck. Lem
  • I felt tired during detox too, although I was coming down with a cold. I didn't have aches so maybe you are getting the flu. I did not exercise at all & still lost 4 lbs. (& I had already lost weight from different plans).

Even though I cook I was getting bored, too. However, I think because I was so tired I didn't feel like cooking much more than I was already doing. I made a couple of good soups (my favorite was a "Cream of Mushroom" I found on one of the forums I belong to). Sweet potatoes were a life saver since I could nuke one quickly. Doing a salad with some mandarin oranges was a quick lunch followed by yogurt or a different fruit.

However, I know I was eating enough calories (anywhere from 1200-1600 daily). I had the egg whites, beans and brown rice almost each day. I've always had frozen fruits on hand & canned (in natural or even lite syrup - just pour the syrup off). How about sugarless applesauce warmed with cinnamon. Easy & comforting.

As everyone has said, you only have 2 more days to go. Hang in there & once you start adding some of the allowed Phase II foods you should get your energy back.

If you absolutely can't wait 2 more days then add one or two items from Phase II & just continue on with Phase II & when you're feeling better & if you feel the need, throw in a day or two of detox while you're doing Phase II.

Don't give it all up just because you can't do 9 full days of detox. That's the best thing about FS - it is forgiving.
  • Thanks for the support everyone.
I was so tired last night. I went to bed at like 10 and didn't wake up till 9 when my alarm went off. I felt a bit better after some good long sleep so I hope to get a good start today.

I had a small breakfast only because I was running late for class. This also means that I didn't grab anything for a snack. (Again I went right to bed and forgot to make something ahead of time. >_<) So I won't be able to eat again till around 2ish. that's 5 hours with no meal. I'm sure it will be okay. But I'm already hungry *falls over*

The hard part is that the small town I live in, things like good fresh fruits and veggies are not as avaliable this time of year. it would be better (and sometimes more safe) to by frozen, (Though it's not as cheap heh)

I love to cook and I love to try out new ideas, I was doing well at first but as my energy dropped, so did my will to cook. But anyways, yes the chili came out great! I ate all 4 servings lol not in one sitting though @_@ but yeah it was yummy, next time I'll try it with brown rice and not the tofu.

I think my sudden lack of sugar is what is making me so tried. I've stayed away from anything with sugar in it, other than the Splenda and natural sugars in fruit. >_<... but I'm going to stick to it. I only have one more day left.

Groovygrl... I live in Thatcher. (It's right next to Safford on a map, being that Thatcher is conected to Safford) ...It's about 2 1/2 hours from Tucson.
  • Sakai,

I feel your pain. I got fed up with this just halfway or so into detox. I understand the theories behind detoxing and all, but at the same time it seems a bit gimmicky to me. Most of this weight that people are happy about losing is water weight, which you naturally lose when you only eat fruit, veggies and water for 9 days straight. I know this from my times on south beach. It goes right back on if you start eating normally. (Yes, I know, that's why he has phase 2 which is still restrictive.)

I applaud those of you who can stick to this type of diet, but because of my personal tastes, it was like a starvation diet for me. I'm also a bit of a science and methodology geek, so I was disappointed in the lack of information in Dr. Ian's book.

I'm going to check out the "you: on a diet" book and perhaps give it a ride. I realize now I need to change my lifestyle, not just be on a diet.
  • Smartbutt~ I am sorry that FS didn't work out for you. Everyone has to find the eating plan that fits them. I am aware that I lost water weight at the beginnning of FS. Every diet/eating plan that a person goes on will rid them of water weight first. But, I only lost 6 lbs in phase 1. I have lost 19 total. I know that all of that isn't water weight. As far as the weight going back on when you start eating normally... I am never going to go back to eating the foods that I was eating before. I consider the foods that I am eating now to be NORMAL foods. For me FS has been a lifestyle change... not just a diet.

I wish you luck in your efforts to lose weight. I hope you find the plan that is right for you.

    Sherry
  • I agree Sherry, it is definitely a lifestyle change for me as well. Maybe detox is a bit of a gimmick but I really thinkt he rest of the plan does set you up for life. It has taught me to eat regularly so I don't binge and to drink water and lay off the caffeine. Prior to doing this diet, I honestly probably drank 1-2 glasses of water per week. Everything else was fruit juice or iced tea. To go from that to 72-80 oz a day is a huge change! I am not 100% sure I will transition into each phase, I am still trying to see what works but I have also learned portion control and have reconnected w/ fruits and veggies. Plus it is nice to know that I am not putting all this artificial stuff in my body anymore. When I was on Weight watchers I was eating a ton of frozen meals for convenience. When I look at all those unknown ingredients in those meals now, I can't believe I was eating them! Have a great day everyone!
  • I agree with most everyone says here. The isn't really a diet it is a life change. I feel it is training you to make better food choices and build better eating habits. I am not going to say I will never eat junk food again but I do know everything is in moderation.

Sakai: i know its rough 9 days seams like a long time but you are almost at the end I hope you don't quite. Phase II is a lot better and you will probably find more options of things to eat.
