Baked Brown Rice

  • I got this recipe form the Food Network (Alton Brown). I tried this last week and it was really Yummy!!
I omitted the Salt and the butter to make it more FS friendly.
I also added vegetable stock instead of the water.

The rice was so fluffy and delicious. I was getting tired of plain brown rice, it helped to get me over a slump.

1 1/2 cups brown rice, medium or short grain
    2 1/2 cups water
    1 tablespoon unsalted butter
    1 teaspoon kosher salt

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Place the rice into an 8-inch square glass baking dish.

Bring the water, butter, and salt just to a boil in a kettle or covered saucepan. Once the water boils, pour it over the rice, stir to combine, and cover the dish tightly with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 1 hour.

After 1 hour, remove cover and fluff the rice with a fork. Serve immediately
  • Ooh, that sounds like a good method! Plus I trust anything from Alton.

Thanks so much for posting that - I'll try it tonight.
  • Foolproof!
I've tried this recipe several times and it is SO simple and works everytime. My Puerto Rican BF, who grew up on rice, loves it!
  • I've tried making brown rice before and I HATED it...but after I made this recipe I was eating it PLAIN! It was sooo good, I'm tempted to say that I actually like this brown rice better than white rice! This is super tasty and it goes well with the Creole Rice and Beans recipe in this forum too.
