I need help with my eating

  • I had a lb lost this week- second week in a row- and I'm wondering if it's the carbs in my diet. I want to loose atleast 2 lbs per week. I'm going to the gym 5-6 days a week cardio 1 hr, weights 15-20 mins. today I start with a trainer.

    Here's my fit day: can someone tell me if it's the carbs keeping me from loosing more? My nutritionist didn't mention it.

  • I'm not sure I can help you lose 2 pounds a week ... but I can look at your fitday. Do you just want some tips for tweaking?
  • I don't see a lot of poor quality carbs in what you have listed for the first four or five days. I don't think carbs from vegetables and fruit should be blamed for anything.

    I have been tracking my weekly weigh ins on a spreadsheet whose columns include the date, number of calories consumed per day, time spent in intentional exercise, the activity, and where in the month that week falls in my cycle. I've been able to pinpoint the one week when I will get a big loss. Two others, I may lose a little. One will show a slight gain or no loss. There is some comfort in knowing what to expect (all things remaining equal).

    If you don't want all things to remain equal, you'll have to increase the intensity of your workouts or reduce your calories a little. I don't think skipping the banana or raw carrots will do much for you. Switching from 2% to skim might help. Have less pasta and more veggies might also help.
  • I looked at your fitday. All of your carbs are coming from natural sources, it appears. Bananas are not really the best choice but should be consumed 1 to 2 times a week as they are very high in sugar and not really the best choice as far as fruit should go.

    When you do eat carbohydrates, they should come from healthy, natural sources. Whole grain products like cereals, granolas, flat breads and breads...these must be whole grain and say non-enriched. (For instance, wonderbread light whole weat has 9 net carbs, but more sugar than a natural bread that I buy that has 14 net carbs per slice, but is very low sugar.) Fruits that are naturally low in sugars such as berries of all variety or that have high fiber are also good for consumption. Carbs are also fine when they come any fiberous product such as a bean.. Nuts are also good for you. Of course, vegtables!

    Many people who are insulin resistent can not eat carbs at all, some can eat them just fine in moderation. I know what sort of carbs I eat affect me no matter how many calories I consume. This might be something you want to speak with your trainer about and something to experiement with. If you really have concerns about carbohydrates, do some research and maybe talk to your doctor. (Many Docs have different opinions though.) Your breakfast looks fine to me.
  • Also..all that weight train could be leading to muscle gain! If you are going to work out dutifully with weights, then track your inches! It's way better to lose inches than pounds.
  • October the 31st was a great day food-wise. If you'd skipped the yolks in those eggs ... it would have been stellar!
  • I'm wondering why many people omit the yolks from eggs? The yolk's health benefits far outweigh it's consequences. And really, to me, the health benefits are not really worth a handful of calorie cuts. I don't find egg whites filling at all. If I ate 3 eggs whites vs. 2 regular sized eggs, I'll take the latter.

    yes this i what i was looking for.
    yeah most of my carbs are good. I rarely eat prepakaged foods I cook just about everyday and try not to eat out. I don't have a prob w/ insulin (had that checked).
    I guess I need to be patient maybe my body needs a little more time to get use to the foods I'm giving it.
  • It's a tweak Ally, a little more protein, a little less fat.
  • I'll second what you just said -- YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT TIME, TOO. Even if you think you are eating and exercising to a level that will net you a 2lb/week loss, it doesn't mean it will happen every week! If you've only been doing this for 2 weeks, you need more time.

    Also, as another poster said, maybe you will have to decrease the food or increase the exercise to lose... that also takes time to figure out what works for you.

    Finally, do you really need to lose at that pace? It may be more sustainable to lose a little more slowly. You will feel less deprived. After all, the end game is not to just LOSE the weight, it is to KEEP it off!

    congrats -- It sounds like you're eating healthy and exercising. You are on your WAY to a healthier you!!! If you keep doing this, you'll get there. THAT is what's important, right???
  • I would like to add that a pound a week is WONDERFUL! 2 pounds a week is a good goal, but it definitely does NOT happen every week-especially as your weight loss progresses. You are doing wonderfully-keep it up!
