Oprah Today 11/2

  • Did anyone else watch Oprah today with Dr. Oz?? It was VERY interesting! It was all about what makes us fat, and why the waist measurement is the only one that you really need to be concerned with. I really go alot out of it actually, and what he said made alot of sense....

  • Did I miss it or did they not tell us how to drop a size in 10days?They were advertising it but I never saw it.
  • I don't know, I was on the phone with my parents.... silly parents phoning in the middle! GEESH! But they had just got back from holidays... so I kind of HAD to talk to them!
  • I caught most of it this afternoon, and plan to stay up to watch the rerun tonight, too! It was very interesting, though I have to admit that the whole "omenta" thing grossed me out a lot!

Also, the statistics given about waist size and mortality were frightening, considering that's where I tend to pack on most of my weight. I'm glad I saw it though, as it just reinforced my determination to lose weight before my health starts to suffer.

Now that you mention it, I don't recall them telling us either! I'll watch the rerun and let you know if I hear it the second time!
  • I saw it last night, but my parents called during the middle of it as well. What was the thing with the sweet and low and water? And what are all the mortality things you were talking about?
  • Here is the Whole Sweet and Low thing....

To find out which you are, stir a packet of Sweet 'n Low into about four ounces of water. Taste it. Is it sweet or bitter?

"If it tastes bitter it means that saccharin overpowered your taste buds, which means you're a supertaster," he says. "Supertasters don't like vegetables and fruits. They taste too pungent, too strong, for them. They need to take a multivitamin because if you don't like to eat those foods, you need to get that nutrition somewhere else."

"If the mixture tastes sweet, you're an undertaster," Dr. Oz says. "It means that you're going to crave a lot of foods because you can never satisfy your palate."
  • I wonder what my omenta looks like...
  • It was a cool episode...so my goal is to get my waist below 32 1/2 inches. Tonight there is the real program with Dr. Oz on the Discovery Channel at 9pm eastern
  • I caught the re run last night. What an interesting episode. I have their first book You: The Owners Manual I'm not even half way through yet, but I love it.

I wish they'd have said where they measured the waist because it can vary. Some people measure at their natural waist (the smallest part) and some over the belly button.

That Omentum thing was weird too, I had never heard of that before, kind of scary how different the 2 looked!
  • I'm pretty sure I heard them say over the belly button, and you are allowed to suck in!
  • It's over the belly button, but they encourage you to suck in as much as you can.
  • Wow! I missed this episode but I just read on the Oprah web site. It seems amazing to me that they say to aim for 32.5 inch waist. I already have about a 33 inch waist and I feel way overweight..
  • I can't believe I missed that
  • Hmm... that sounds interesting, I should try that Sweet and Low thing, not like I'm going to buy the book or anything... I've spent over 100 bucks on "dieting" and "improving" myself... I'm kind of done w/ it...

    Hopefully they'll repeat this Oprah
