New here and in need of support

  • Hi everyone!

    My name is Jenn and I'm 20. I live in South Jersey and spend all of my weekends at my shore house. Every summer, the beach gets filled with people who look like they just walked out of a magazine. I love the beach and being down the shore, and my boyfriend and I spend all of our free time down there with my family. BUT I just want to be able to feel good about myself this summer of 2007.

    My method of dieting is counting my calories and I am officially starting my diet tomorrow morning. I work at a bank (Commerce to be exact) and our branch is small and its like a mini family. We are constantly eating junk food and pizza while at work. I need advice and ideas for healthy food to bring to work (and even for the weekends because I live off of takeout down the shore)!

    Sorry to keep going on and on but this is really important to me, and even though my boyfriend says he loves me no matter what, its hard for him to understand because he is fit and healthy and works out a lot too

  • For me I don't necessarily eat 'entirely healthy food', but rather balance out carbohydrates to my vitamins and fibres and so on (within the calorie limit). What works for me (as an example) is having wholesome sandwiches with tomato slices, lettuce and edam cheese for lunch which fills me right up until dinner, sometimes rye bread with cottage cheese or tuna on top. Of course, you can set up your own plan and divide the calories for each meal, equally to total calories you intend to take in the day. May I suggest you not deprive yourself or limit to certain food but watch what you put into your mouth as well!

    I envy you on two counts! I walked on the beach once this summer and it was fabulous! And number two ... my DH walks with me once in a blue moon. It'd be really nice to work out together.

    I'm new as well asnd I think that joining this group is a great first step in losing weight. If your boyfriend works out, you should join him sometimes. Also, when you're on the beach on the week-ends why not go for a jog or a really long walk. Walking on sand is a good work-out. I think if you see how good you feel working out you will start making better food choices during the day.

    Myself, I will be taking my kids outside more to play with them in the parks and going on long walks with them in the stroller. I know you can do it, good luck,
