New member intro :)

  • Good afternoon, Everyone!

My name is Aileen and I am joining WW on Saturday morning. I was going to wait until January, but some things happened this week that moved that up quite a bit for me. (I am moving to another county a few days before Christmas, which is why I was going to wait).

You see, my oldest son is a Marine and he is currently in California doing desert training. He is leaving for Iraq in February. A few weeks ago, I was telling him how I wanted to see how much weight I could lose in the year that he is gone and that I was going to try to do some sort of weight loss plan in January, but wasn't sure what. He laughed and said, "Oooh, Momma's gonna be all skinny when I get home! I won't recognize you!" Then he got very quiet and serious and said, "Momma...I don't care if you are skinny, ya know. I just want you to be healthy." I promised him that I would do my best. Well, yesterday, I received a UPS package at work. Long story short, it was a beautiful white gold and diamond necklace called the Medal of Honor with a letter from my son thanking me for all I have done for him and telling me to wear the necklace whenever I am feeling blue or missing him while he is gone. To say I was crying is an understatement. I was flat out blubbering! A while later, the thought hit me. I don't have to wait until January. I'm going to get healthy for my kids NOW. Unfortunately, the only time slots that worked well for me are on Saturday, so I have to wait until then. BUT, I'm here and that is the first step.

Anyway, just a bit about me, I'm happily married and have 3 of the best kids in the world. John is a Marine; Adam is a freshman in college; and Olivia is in 7th grade. I am a legal assistant during the day and a mom/wife/scrapbooking junkie the rest of the time. I'm looking forward to be an active participant here and getting to know all of you - whether it is through offering a shoulder of support or donning my cheerleader outfit to shout about your successes.

    Namaste'!
    Aileen

p.s. sorry for the long, rambling first post!
  • Aileen, welcome in! I believe you made the best choice by starting NOW! I was at a meeting this morning....I'm a regular Saturday morning girl, but I like the Wednesday leader, too, so when I get the chance I hit her meeting on Wednesdays. ANYWAY....one of her big topics today was why it's best for us that we're doing WW now as opposed to waiting until after the holidays. In a nutshell, her reasons were that (1) by getting on plan now, we'll be better equipped to handle the holildays and their many food choices/obstacles, (2) many people just eat their way through the season and end up gaining 5-15 pounds between November 1st and January 2nd, and (3) by starting now, you've already got a jumpstart on the weight loss. You'll still need to lose weight in January, but not as much as if you wait until then to begin, and you won't have all the extra holiday weight to lose as well.

So, in a nutshell, good luck and welcome!
  • Hi Aileen

WW is a great program and I wish you lots of success!
  • Thank you both so much! I can hardly wait to get started
  • Hi Aileen - I think you will be really happy that you started WW now instead of waiting until January - just think about how much of a head start you will have over others who will wait til January to start! I'm a legal assistant also during the day, and I know how stressful that job can be. Where I work we do criminal defense and it's a little stressful and having food at the office is a constant, so avoiding it is always a challenge. But that's why I was hunting for a website like this so I could log on and browse for inspiration to avoid that food in the kitchen! This site will help you too.
  • Oh, yes! I can definitely relate! I do workers' comp/insurance defense and we get goodies delivered to the office from clients, court reporters, printing companies, etc. constantly. At least three times a week, an email will go out "Cookies in the breakroom".... lawdy dawg...

Thank you for understanding! Good to meet you!
