Labyrinths...

  • I was just wondering...has anyone ever "done" a labyrinth? Was it a good experience? I found one around here, and I've always wanted to go. When I went to school around DC the National Cathedral had one, but I could never get there on the days they had it open.

    Thanks for any help!

  • Hi Vanessa:

This is the second time this AM that I have felt compelled to respond to a post before even adding my own intro!

I adore labyrinths, and I walk them several times a year. A year ago August, I was able to visit the great labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral in France. I have had profound experiences with labyrinth walks, as well as more mundane ones. My favorite semilocal labyrinths are the ones at Grace Cathedral. There is also one a couple of miles from me that is painted onto cement. It took me a while to warm up to that one, but I did.

My favorite M.O. for walking the labyrinth is to stand at the beginning and pose a question. Some questions I have asked in this situation are: Should I continue with my court reporting study? How am I going to live with my cat's death? What was I meant to learn from this situation? Then I walk and see what comes to mind.

I hope this link is acceptable for this forum because I think you'll find it helpful: http://wwll.veriditas.labyrinthsociety.org/
  • Thanks...I will definitely look at the link. I did go to the one here last week, but when they are using weedwackers and etc all around, its a little hard to find any "inner peace"!
    lol

    Thanks!
  • Weed whackers, nursery schools...
    Greetings:

I know what you mean about the weed whackers. The one nearest me is located at a church that has a nursery school! I just try to view it as part of the scenery; happy kid noise is certainly better than a weed whacker, though.
