  • Just thought I'd share this little tip... I like to eat a big salad before dinner to fill me up a little. But I like my salad with LOTS of dressing. So I use honey BBQ sauce and just a bit of ranch dressing on top. The BBQ sauce I buy is only 70 calories for 2 tablespoons, so even with a little ranch on top, I can have lots of dressing for only about 110 calories.

    Enjoy!
  • Hmmm.... interesting tip.... I'm not sure how BBQ sauce would taste on Salad! Never thought of it.
  • I like to use a balsamic vinegrette and add a tablespoon of sugar free jam
  • I like to mix equal portions of chipotle Tabasco (0 cal) and Kraft Light Done Right 3 Cheese Ranch (70 cal for 2 Tblp). Yum!
  • I got the idea from a restaurant called California Pizza Kitchen. They have a BBQ chopped chicken salad that's delicious. Of course they typically put several tablespoons of ranch dressing on with the BBQ sauce. So I started ordering it with extra BBQ and ranch on the side, and sometimes even forgot to put the BBQ sauce on. If it's a sweet or honey BBQ sauce, it's delicious!
  • It sounds good! I'll bet it would be good with a little smoked tofu, too

I do the same thing, it's good! I also cut my dressings with different types of vinegars, lemon juice, lime juice, etc! YUM
  • Kevin - I've been doing the same thing too! I make a BBQ chicken salad with lettuce, green or purple onion, shredded cheddar (2%), chicken and I've been mixing 1 1/2 BBQ w/1 1/2T Red. Fat Sour Cream. Put it in a bowl and chop with one of the salad chopper blades so it all gets blended together, and put into a serving bowl. Sometimes I toast a taco shell and crumble on top for replacement tortilla strips.
  • I don't like BBQ sauce but what I've done for low calorie salad dressings include:

Mixing nonfat plain yogurt with some spices and lemon juice. It gives a creamyish salad dressing without all the calories.

Using some form of salsa as the salad dressing.
  • salsa and FF sour cream mixed together makes a YUMMY salad dressing too!

Oh me too!!! I love it! I could eat that every day! add a little chicken, and a few toasted pita pieces for crunch, and you got yourself a salad! YUM!!!!
  • One thing I do to cut back on salad dressing is to add herbs to the salad. I sprinkle basil and oregano striaght on the salad then add a little dressing.
  • a yummy low calorie dressing I always use is 1/2 cup plain fat free yogurt + 1/2 tsp cumin + salt and pepper + squeeze of lemon
  • My almost 0 calorie salad dressing.

Soy sauce (I use the low sodium kind). Seasoned rice wine vinegar. Splenda. A bit of minced ginger (I get mine already minced in a tube). Mix above to taste.

Seriously tasty, seriously low cal. Probably a bit high in sodium, but I care more about the calories than that.
  • Lately I've been making a salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh basil, and raspberries. The only thing I put on it is sea salt, pepper, and a high qualify balsamic vinegar (only 10 calories per tablespoon). It is really yummy. I eat it with a spoon so that I get all of the balsamic vinegar.

I don't like to spend a lot of calories on salad dressing, so I try to stick with dressings that are 35 calories per serving or less and then I usually only use half a serving. Putting sea salt and pepper on the salad really helps stretch the dressing. I can see myself becoming a real sea salt connoisseur one of these days (I'm already spending ridiculous amounts of money on balsamic vinegar).
