Real Beauty

  • I'm a big fan of the Dove Real Beauty campaign...they just came out with a video called evolution check it out here
  • Hi-- I post in the 100 lb club-- we have a thread going on over there about this too. It's amazing how necessary it is to be perfect isn't it... Even to sell things. This commercial really brings it home. Did you see the one about daughters? It's heart breaking.

It's nice to want to be healthy and "thin" but this is extreme. Don't you think?
  • I was about to go post it in the 100lb club I think this last year or two things have got bad....or maybe I've just noticed. Most of the actresses are skin and bones, not just models anymore. I haven't met one guy who thinks it's "hot". Most think it looks like they're sick. I don't get that obsession. It's one thing to want to lose weight and be healthy. I watched the one about daughters awhile ago. My mom has always been supportive, but seeing her down herself got me in the habit. I think that's one of the reasons I'm where I'm at.Anyways I'd better cut this off before I end up writting a book
  • Believe it or not, I have never seen this.. but I think it's amazing. This is something I feel really, REALLY strongly about - although I want to lose weight, I still want to look like I eat full meals! I actually have a friend who is absolutely beautiful, but says she is ugly and needs to lose a few lbs (she's a stick!). Whenever she says things like that, it makes me sad.

I'd someday like to do some sort of work with helping young women with self-perception. I'm not yet sure what, but I know that what Dove is doing is a step in the right direction.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • I love the dove real beauty campaign. I remember the first time I saw the commercial and all I could think was how happy I was that a main stream company was recognizing reality. I actually find it very sad to see how the perception of beauty has been equated to thinness. I get discussed when I see pictures of fashion models and you can see all for their bones. I’m sad for them and that have such altered perception of reality that they their body is healthy and beautiful. In my personal opinion that is just as unhealthy as being overweight and I think our society fails to recognize it.

    Great post and discussion!
  • I love these commercials. My mom only very seldom wears makeup, her only essentials are lip gloss and mascara. She is just naturally pretty and has a great complexion. So she passed this on to me. Natural beauty is the way to go!
