Footwear Advice - Moonwalk

  • Hi can anybody give me some advice on what is the best kind of footwear to wear to walk a marathon, well train for it in the first instance. I've got trainers that I can wear for now but for the longer walks I do want to buy some good ones especially as I have diabetes so need to definitely stay away from foot problems that could be caused by wearing the wrong kind of footwear.

    Cheers
  • New Balance do some specialist walking trainers, my mum just got a pair and is quite impressed with them.
  • My best advice would be to go to a specialist running shop. I bought some last year (Reeboks) and after a few walks they pinched soo much. I endedup with New Balance and it was the best £50 I spent for a long time.

I'd shied away from running shops, because I'm not a runner but I learned all about overpronating and weak ankles (all of which I have!)
  • Thanks Helen and Clare - I'll bear those in mind
  • overpronating?
I'm interested in this thread because I just can't seem to find comfy shoes. I have plantar faceitis (sp).

    What is overpronating?

Where are New Balance shoes sold?
  • I didn't notice this was UK
So, where would I find them in the US should be my question.
  • Mare, if you try www.newbalance.com you will find links to the US site, I've just had a quick look at the UK site now.
  • Ooh YP has a new av.

There are official new balance 'walk the walk' trainers on the 'walk the walk' website (under 'get walking' then 'choosing footwear' link) I see. £2 goes to the charity.
  • cbmare- I really am not the best person to explain overpronating (as this is the only time I have ever used the word) I think it's that the feet roll inwards when you run/ walk due to a bit of flat footedness (probably not helped by my weight)

My NBs are lovely though and make all my aches and pains minimal!
