Can't find the SB book....help

  • I've been researching different woe and have heard great things about SB. I got some great info, from 3fc about glcyemic indexes. I've decided to follow the SB woe and went out this morning to buy the book. I live in a small town and can't find the book! I checked Walmart and Coles and even the second hand book stores..to not avail.

I'm going grocery shopping this afternoon and want to stock up on the right foods. I figure if I stick to foods with a low GI I should do okay. I have a couple of questions though... When I'm making choices, does everything have to be sugar free,or can sugar be an ingredient but not a main ingredient..ie if sugar is the 11th ingredient listed is it a no no.

Any other big tips that you can share would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

  • Hi Nancy, and welcome to the SB BOARDS Another Canadian-you're in good company with ROSALIE

I would think you should be able to get the SB BOOK, at the local book store, or at least the library. I'm sure there are a few places on the web you can order from as well. I know that you can easily find used copies too-shipping shouldn't be all that much.

To answer your question in regards to the sugars-by SB RULES you can eat anything that has 3 grams of sugar or less PER SERVING and still be considered to be OP. BUT, you must check that the rest of the ingredients are SB LEGAL as well. For instance, sponge cake is considered low gi-but we can't eat that since it's made with white flour (that is, unless you make the one I have on our recipe board). I can tell you personally, it's quite rare that I buy anything with sugar, even if it falls under the SB guidelines-there's always an alternative, though, I'm in a big city and that may not be the case where you live.

Have you checked this site: htp://www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/sugarbusters - has some great information.

Please, do join us on our regular weekly support board-and feel free to ask any questions you may have-we're more than happy to help!

  • Hi Nancy

Welcome to SB from another Canadian. Are you anywhere near a Chapters or Indigo bookstore? I know they usually carry the Sugar Busters book. If not you could try either your local library or Chapters.Indigo online at: http://www.chapters.indigo.ca. Another option is to try Amazon.com. I just checked their website and they have it on sale for $16.99US plus shipping. This is quite a bit cheaper than Chapters even after figuring out the exchange rate and you would probably get it quicker too.

Another book you could look for is Michel Montignac's "Eat Yourself Slim". This is the book that gave the SB authors the idea for Sugar Busters! and has much more detailed information than SB. This is the book I started with and still refer to from time to time.

I look forward to seeing you on the Weekly Support Boards.

    Marie.
