Weekend Daily, September 22 and 23

  • Rained almost all night and is still dripping. What a bummer because today is an AIDS walk in Brockville. I will be leaving early to get there to start the 8 a.m. registration so Hershey and I got up early. I usually walk it but decided Hersh and I would opt out as we are in "a delicate condition".

The coffee is on and I have Canadian bacon grilling too. Maybe some scrambled eggs with mushrooms too?

I have been very badly off track but refuse to get on that darn scale. Too much salt in things like ham, soy sauce and corned beef really throws me. How is it that you can gain 3 pounds overnight on salt but it takes 6 days to lose it?

Anyhow, back on track yet again. Have a good Saturday, Chickies.
  • Time Test
Little glitch which I will report to 3FC. I had to go to edit profile and set my time to GMT - 6 instead of 5. It's right now but will check it later. Maybe GMT changed?
  • ahhh, home at last
actually, that was fast! Hardly knew the move was happening.

Not much happening here, it is a quiet muggy morning. I did some clean-up and will go play for a while this afternoon with the 7 year old and my mother. They are going to a puppet show! And we will go out for lunch together. I am really just trying to take it meal by meal, and not doing too well. I don't much feel like dieting now. But I don't want to end up 10 pounds heavier just from comfort food. I have plenty of LC food in the house, I eat it, then I eat sugar anyhow. Well, let's see if today can be better. DH is home, and that helps me be more accountable. I am trying not to be too mad at myself for these slips, but can't let it go on much longer! I am making myself get on the scale in order to keep track of things.

Not much else going on. Did some shopping yesterday- the old faithful for chubby times- SHOES!

    be good,
    dottie
  • Hoot Mon! Here I am
Just a brief hello from Scotland. We had a long wait at the airport considering they really didn't do much checking of anything. |Midway thru our flight, my daughter noticed the Chinese girl sitting next to her peeling an apple with a sharp pen knife. The stewardess took it away from her but then returned it to her. How did THAT pass thru security?
We got into Glasgow about midnight last night and by the time we got to Lisa & Greg's place in Edinburgh it was after 2. We were ready to crash.
Today we all had a nice sleep in then wandered around Prince St (one of the main shopping thoroughfares) but it was very crowded with people. We saw lots of places we want to return to for a better look when we start our sightseeing on our own on Monday. So many statues! Neat old buildings too. I didn't do too bad walking, although my hip started to ache and there's a funny little rough spot in my new shoes that rubs my baby toe.
We then drove up the Royal Mile between Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle just to check it out. Lots of intriguing nooks and crannys to explore and, of course, shops galore.
Our travels ended at the Royal Botanical Gardens where we had a late lunch (nothing to write home about as selection was limited) but I really enjoyed our quick tour of part of the garden and the great view of the city from there.
Now, after a short nap, we're sitting around in their flat waiting for our roast chicken to cook.
They are just a short distance from a large grocery store called Sainsbury's which seems to have everything a person could wish for and a short bus ride or a long walk from downtown. I think we'll take the bus.
I'm hopeful that the unaccustomed walking I'll be doing will make up for the off program foods I'll be eating.
I'll check in with you in a few days.
By the way, I only saw a couple of guys in kilts and they didn't tempt me to use the mirror on a stick you sent me, Ruth. Not a Mel Gibson in the lot.
  • Thanks for checking in Linda! Sounds like you had an excellent Saturday stroll. New shoes, eh? I do that all the time!

This site was down for a while yesterday but back up last nigth. So far very few people have discovered it's back!

Havea wonderful holiday! And check in when you can.

Sorry about the kilt disappointment but it's early days yet.
  • Hi,
Boy that move was fast! Thanks!
I discovered the coolest way to get exercise yesterday. I took my kids to a corn maze and we had a ball. All told, we probably walked 5 miles or so, and it was just too fun. There were three mazes that totaled about 6 miles, and we figure with all the back tracking and getting lost we did, we probably did five miles. They have checkpoints set up where you punch a card they give you to prove that you found your way around the mazes. My daughter and I were so lost at one point. Apparently, I have no sense of direction whatsoever! Anyway, if any of you live in rural enough areas that there may be one of these near you, you ought to try it! There are lots of them on the web. I did a search for "corn maze" and found a whole bunch. I'm not sure I would take really little kids though (unless I had a leash!). We want to go back and do it at night with flashlights. Fun, huh?
Linda - Glad you got there safe and sound. If I see Mel, I'll send him your way.

    Bye,
    Chickadee
  • Boy that move was quick and painless. I wish all my other moves could be so easily done!

The weekend here in Oregon is gorgeous. It'll probably be the last nice weather for the year. Rain is imminent.

I've been unusually crabby the past couple days, think it's pms. I've also been craving carbs like crazy. Especially those blended mocha's I love so much. So, I went a got some Carb Solutions protein mix in chocolate, added some half & half, a shot of espresso, ice cubes and threw it in the blender. It's not the same, but it's not too bad either. Sure beats the million carbs in the Frappachino's!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

  • Just stopping by and checking in,

Chickadee- I loved the idea of the corn maze! I have never heard of this, and searched and found many near here, in Lancaster County PA, and other areas. Wow, I just had to thank you for the idea!

And Jenniwookie- thanks for the idea of the coffee in choc protein power idea- I've done it in the past, but forgot...that might help me in the afternoons at work- I get into big trouble then.

HI LINDA BC!!!! Keep giving us reports- that 's the only way I'll see Scotland!

See you later Ruth, you girls should put your feet up and pamper! (delicate condition)

  • hellooo
First of all I wanted to tell Linda not to worry about gaining in Scotland, althoug it may be hard to find a lot of Low Carb stuff, the food there is so nasty and tasteless you won't WANT to eat!! My dh is from England and everytime I've gone or my children have, we've lost. BLECKKH!

Jenniewookie_ I love coffee drinks too. My once a day indulgence is a strong coffee at home with some vanilla cream stuff and alittle "equal". If I'm out and about I go where they have sugarless syrups. (MANY places do) Starbucks has french vanilla usually.I get a "Sugarfree Vanilla Latte w/ whiipped Cream" It's awesome and pretty guilt free.

Keep me in your thoughts chickees....tomorrow my dh and I are going to see his counselor together. I am going to tell him how tired and fed up I have been for 15 years. It's scary having 5 kids and all, but I'm convinced all the screaming and his mood swings (from a great guy to a raging, cussing, degrading idiot) aren't good for them either. I read an old diary today from 1990 and I was saying the same thing I'm saying today. I don't want to have 30 years into this and still feel like this.
A good friend said that the tragedies this past week have taught us life is too short (among other things)
Another friend once read that a woman who was married for 60 years said the secret to a long marriage was to "never let him see you brush your teeth". I like that one.

    Take care ladies.
  • Renee I wish you all the strength in the world to do what you need to do. stay strong and think of the next 30 years do you want things to change or stay the same. that should give you strength and hopefully him the strength to change.I will have you on my mind.
  • Good evening!!
Good evening to all!! Just got back from the mountains..took the kids on a cool train ride up a mountain in WV..then we went trout fishing and ate our catch for dinner...great fun was had by all!!

I hope you all had a good weekend...I see I missed the move so all must be well.

Renee, I will think of you....my first husband was not very much fun to live with, nasty, had an allergy to keeping a job for over a week and so on....I stayed married to him for 2 years too long and one day I said enough!!! THere were no children involved thank god! That is much harder. I have never regretted it for a moment, I am now happily married with 2 wonderful children...I hope it all works out for you and you can be happy with whatever you decide. Take care and god bless.
  • Linda, if it's at all possible, do try to get on a tourist bus on the Royal Mile. They really do have the inside scoop on everything. I'm so happy for you, Linda. I hope you're having enough fun for all of us, stuck at home.
