Just a brief hello from Scotland. We had a long wait at the airport considering they really didn't do much checking of anything. |Midway thru our flight, my daughter noticed the Chinese girl sitting next to her peeling an apple with a sharp pen knife. The stewardess took it away from her but then returned it to her. How did THAT pass thru security?
We got into Glasgow about midnight last night and by the time we got to Lisa & Greg's place in Edinburgh it was after 2. We were ready to crash.
Today we all had a nice sleep in then wandered around Prince St (one of the main shopping thoroughfares) but it was very crowded with people. We saw lots of places we want to return to for a better look when we start our sightseeing on our own on Monday. So many statues! Neat old buildings too. I didn't do too bad walking, although my hip started to ache and there's a funny little rough spot in my new shoes that rubs my baby toe.
We then drove up the Royal Mile between Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle just to check it out. Lots of intriguing nooks and crannys to explore and, of course, shops galore.
Our travels ended at the Royal Botanical Gardens where we had a late lunch (nothing to write home about as selection was limited) but I really enjoyed our quick tour of part of the garden and the great view of the city from there.
Now, after a short nap, we're sitting around in their flat waiting for our roast chicken to cook.
They are just a short distance from a large grocery store called Sainsbury's which seems to have everything a person could wish for and a short bus ride or a long walk from downtown. I think we'll take the bus.
I'm hopeful that the unaccustomed walking I'll be doing will make up for the off program foods I'll be eating.
I'll check in with you in a few days.
By the way, I only saw a couple of guys in kilts and they didn't tempt me to use the mirror on a stick you sent me, Ruth. Not a Mel Gibson in the lot.
