Time to move from the 20's to 30's

  • Hi. I used to post sometimes on the 20's board, but since I am about to 31 next Sunday I guess this is the place for me now...no more denial about being in my 30's.

More about me: I am married to Cliff. We have been together since we met in college in 1993 and we have been married since 2000. We have one son named R.J. and he will be 5 in December. We live in Mississippi. My husband sells cars and will soon be promoted to management in the car business. I am a Special Education teacher for kids in grades K-3 who have developmental delays and learning disabilities, but are still taught in the regular classroom. I am on the run all day going from classroom to classroom to help my students be successful in the regular classroom and to help the regular teacher meet their needs.

I have been working hard to get control of my eating and exercise habits this year. I have lost 22 pounds this year. I had some setbacks this summer because my husband and I were buying/building a house and moving into our house and I was doing a lot of stress eating and eating a lot of fast food, which I know is terrible. But the good news is that I am not back to eating right and trying to walk with my son 3-4 times per week. I don't follow a particular program, but I just try to make healthy choices, eat smaller portions and stay away from junk. I am trying to make myself drink more water, too, but that's probably the hardest thing because I just don't like water...but I know diet cokes are bad choices so I try to limit them and I also like to drink green tea.

Well, I hope to get to know some of you here as we all work towards our goals of losing weight and getting healthy.
  • Welcome! I just moved to the 30's in July. I don't post here as often as I would like, but I wanted to come by and say hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Hi Sharon. Thanks for the welcome. In the past I haven't posted as often as I should, but I really believe that the more often I post the more likely I will be to lose weight because I find that when I quit posting and blogging my weight starts going up. So, I am going to try to post more often now and hopefully that will help me to reach my goal.
  • Hi Melody! I saw your hello in the weekly thread and thought I'd reply to ya down here. I don't usually meet any other Melody's either, I like my name but I think I've been called Melanie more in my life than Melody, I don't even notice it anymore, but my friends always do. I'm 38 (will be 39 in january, sigh) and work as a Registered Nurse with the Mentally Ill which I've been doing for 11 years. I have 3 children, a son who is 15, a daughter who is 8, and another son who is 5. I've been divorced for a few years now (2 officially, apart a year before that) and decided it was time to work on me for awhile and start to like me again!! I've been on my plan for 5 months, the last couple of months have been hard, but I'm sticking with it. I hope you jump right in and post up in the weekly thread, I look forward to getting to know you!
  • Hi MelodyL,

Yes, I have been called Melanie more than Melody, too. It used to drive me crazy, but I try not to worry about it. I have even had employers who clearly have seen my name written numerous times still call me Melanie. Even my husband messed up my name when we first met. He tried to look up my number in the college phonebook after meeting me and there was a girl named Melanie with my same last name and he called her and she had no idea what he was talking about...too funny.
  • That's funny, lol. I went somewhere the other day and ordered something and the guy took my name and I said Melody and he wrote down Melity, is that even a name??
