Picnic ideas!

  • Hello!

What shall I pack for me and Mr Frus's picnic on Sunday? I'm open to all ideas - even naughty cakes!

I'm thinking so far... Tyrells parsnip crisps, some kind of sandwich, not sure what for me - cheese for Mr veggie.

Perhaps chicken and bacon, or something with a bundle of salad in, perhaps some quiche! Oooh yummy!

Lots of fruit - probably some decent apples, maybe some strawberries. Perhaps some goat's cheese!

Which goat's cheese do I get - we like that round stuff that's soft in the middle, what kind of packet does that come in? Is there a trade name I should look for

I'm thinking I should get a nice treat kind of pudding, since it's weekend and we are walking an awful long way! Don't know what's good - I might have to scour the Waitrose shelves!

Any exciting ideas? Feta cheese and roasted mediteranean veg? What veg would I use?

    Ta

  • The last picnic I did I had multi-seed bagels, houmous, rocket and a jar of roast peppers, then when I stopped for lunch I assembled stuff on the spot. I also had some cut up raw veggies to dip in the rest of the houmous, and some fruit. Oh, and a pot of olives with feta.
  • Sounds yummy!

Ooh is he my other half as well now?
  • I thought that as I typed it...
  • Chargrilled veg/couscous salad with olives and feta.... ohhhhh YUM!

Chargrilled veggies layered with goats cheese in ciabatta

Basically chargrilled veggies with anything. I just found out that you get a much better result chargrilling veg if you sprinkle it with basalmic vinegar.

    Butterbean, tomato and onion salad

    Greek Salad

I like the simple life though - just great big hunks of really good bread and two or three nice cheeses with some of those great big tomatoes (possibly a bag of salad leaves) and a screw top bottle of red wine - with some ripe peaches and cherries for dessert.
  • Cheese and bread
  • These all sound fine.

For our book clubs - which are sometimes picnics - we have quiche, bread, cheese, hoummous, some cold meat for them as does, some salad - of the rice/pasta variety, a cake of some type or tart.
  • In the end we had goats cheese and organic wholemeal bread for lunch, some saffron buns for snacks. We had a cream tea since it was pee-ing down and we came down off the mountain early. We even had time for a bar meal too! Then we ate our quiche and strawberries at 9pm on the coach!
