Good morning Lifers, Soon-to-be-Lifers, and anyone else lurking

Hope everyone had a good weekend! It was pretty hot & humid here (88 both Saturday & Sunday). DH had his home opening rugby game and it was brutal! Even though I had sunscreen of 25 on I still got a burn!

The weekends are tough for me as far as trying to stay OP...it's been a struggle but I'm working on being a little better.

Today is my first Yoga class and I'm excited to begin something new.

A little triumph at the company picnic - only had a veggie burger, salad and watermelon - forsaking the hot dogs, burger-burgers, bbq chicken, baked potatoes, corn and cookies. I AM SO PROUD!!

It makes me feel good because I have been feeling really out of control, non-stop picking and large unrestrained meals. Fortunately, I haven't gained, but still I dislike the lack of control. Maybe I've turned a little corner. Hope so.

Haven't had much exercise lately, with the bum leg (which is 99% improved)and some work functions during my usual work-out time. But this week that should change too a little. I'm a little afraid to jump right into the heavy hitter cardio classes with the leg, but do want to do more than I had last week.

Took Edward to the vet for a check-up on his heart meds and condition and she said he is much better than the last time we brought him in a couple of months ago. Heart sounds better etc. So I'm happy about that. He's right here on the bed behind me, feigning sleep, but I see his ears perked up. Must know I'm writing about him.

So...life goes on.

good afternoon ladies
Its been quite a day. Lots of nothing going on, but till feel like I accomplished something. I at least found a moderately decent hotel in Paris for three nights. No small feat because its F A S H I O N W E E K or something, so all the hotels are full of supermodels and the people that love them. I guess we'll just have to fit in with all the beautiful people.

DP is gone until Thursday night, I got a message on my machine that stated that its hot during the day and cold at night and that she is seeing many volcanic features in eastern oregon. So sorry I missed the opportunity (NOT). Anyways, the dog, cat and I are enjoying ourselves immensely. We eat frozen meals and I let the cat sleep on the bed .

I have decided to chill out and just take about a week and a half of Leave without pay for my upcoming trip. I am pooped and just can't imagine trying to work 11 hour days to get some more comp time. Its just not worth it.

melissa: glad to hear you were complimented by DH's rugby pals. Whoo hooo. Keep on applying the sunscreen.

laurel: glad to hear eddie is doing better! I will miss the annual lab hotdog day, oh well. I'll have a saucission in Paris instead. I was not going to reschedule my trip for that event.

Lala: I enjoy having time to myself as well. It's nice not having to worry about planning things around DH at times.

I managed to get in 2 good walks yesterday--one at noon and one last evening. I went to my first yoga class and enjoyed it immensely. I was totally relaxed afterwards. I'm looking forward to next week

The temps have cooled off considerably and it's pleasant walking weather. I think Fall is one of my favorite seasons.

OMG...I can't believe what's happening in NYC! Those poor, innocent people! I haven't seen any pictures but from what I've heard on the radio it's not good.

NYC and Washington...there are no words. Stay safe everyone.

i was scheduled to fly from cdg-jfk tomorrow, I am glad we are home (well at least I talked to DP who is stuck in a national guard armory in Bend, OR). However, I am just wondering about the brutal tragedy of this all...

My facility is in lockdown, they sent home all the feds, but the rest of us lackeys are here. I may go home and work from there.

I can't even imagine being on any of those flights, I who blithely travel at any whim. Maybe I'll just go home and curl up on the couch with the dog.

lalala: I work in an office in downtown Halifax called the World Trade & Convention Centre. The Prime Minister was supposed to be here today for some sort of fund-raising dinner. The building was to be the focus for a demonstration by striking federal gov't workers later today.

The PM cancelled..
The strikers cancelled..
The airport is filled with international flights which have been rerouted away from the US..
My sister called .. she was out shopping and when she heard WTCC, she naturally thought of me...
DH called..he's a civilian involved in military defence research... we sometimes wondered whether there was a future for him..
We have our answer.

I am so far removed from the terror, yet I am numb. Go home and hug the dog.

Hey there all. I'm sorry I've been gone for a while. My father-in-law who I'm quite close to had a cerebral hemorrahage, went into a coma very early Friday and just passed away this Tuesday morning. It's been a hellish few days and I'm not really up to much more than just checking in today. I've started the 2ND Wave and will be more up to snuff by next week. Love you all. Patch

I am in shock about what has happened in NYC & Washington - I didn't get to see anything on TV until I got home from work yesterday - the devastation is unreal - my heart goes out to all the victims & their families.

LM - I don't know where in New Jersey you live, but I hope you are safe and sound.

Patch - my condolences to you on the loss of your father-in-law - you will be in my thoughts.

The events of yesterday are still so hard to believe. The newscasters remarked it was kind of surreal...hard to believe that such devastation could be inflicted on innocent people. After watching the accounts of the plane that had crashed in Somerset the realization of how close the craft was to our neck of the woods was scary. It certainly makes you take stock of your life, your family, friends, etc. I, too, went home yesterday and hugged my kids and prayed for those who were affected by the terrorism.

Patch: My condolences on the loss of your father-in-law.

Moving forward slowly, trying to take in all that happened and trying to stay on track.

oh my goodness, I'm so sorry about your loss, what a shock. I'm keeping you in my thoughts. I miss my father in law every day, he was a treasure. How is your DH doing? and son? Please take care.

Melissa: I was too wondering about you. It is scary to experience such horror so close to home.

everyone with kids: How are you dealing with this? Are you turning off the tv? are you talking about it? I had a conversation with my 9 year old neighbor this morning, it seems that this bright girl understood what happened, but was treating it like a movie or something.

Seesaw: thanks for the kind words, I hope your sister is okay.

We lost a bunch of NOAA employees on their way to the Channel Islands Sanctuary with some young kids to participate in a National Geographic expedition. I know two other AA flyers who lost colleagues on the flight. Everyone I know in NY is okay. My brother who was attending a conference in Denver is now driving with a bunch of other professors back to MKE.

So, yesterday I basically ate eggos and cereal. They were good comfort foods.

I sort have zoned out. Just functioning. Blew off a board meeting last night and hung out on the couch with the dog. He is some comfort.

I weighed myself this morning and I'm up another 2 lbs from last week. I can't understand it since I managed to exercise and stay within my points. Something is going on here...

Lala: I totally understand where you're coming from with staying OP and being up. Maybe the foods you ate were a little higher in sodium? Or for me if I don't get my water in my weight goes up...go figure.

Things are getting back to some state of normalcy even though everyone's thoughts are on the victims and the survivor's of the attack. I heard from a pilot friend of mine and he said that air travel will be safe as they will tighten security and be more strict with guidelines. He said the domestic flights have been notorious for not being strict. It's going to be interesting to see how long it's going to take for air traffic to be restored.

RE: Kids My 10 year old doesn't quite grasp the scope of the attack; my 16 year old likened it to the movies like Independence Day. I don't know if anyone really grasps the reality at this point. It's almost like a bad dream that you hope you wake up and it's going to be okay. My older son isn't keen on me flying next weekend and I wasn't that hip on it myself but the more I think about it, it probably wouldn't be bad. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the wait in lines for security, etc.

On another note, I have more peppers and tomatoes waiting to be canned. The weekend is supposed to be cool so I'm figuring that will be prime time, especially since there won't be much on TV
