Fitday calorie allotment

  • I've decided to start using fitday for my calorie counting. However, it says that with out exersize I will hav burned 2191 calories , 1511 of which is basal. This seems way high for me. I'm five seven and weigh 155 I'm 28, and my job is mainly seated.

Should I just roll with it? I know that there is no huge science to how many calories I need and ho many I need to lose, but this _does_ seem really high for me.

What has anyone elses' experience been? I'm sure it's just me since fit day is wildly popular.

Sometimes I think we should have an ongoing fit day thread, so in case I'm asking questions that have already been asked.

    thanks,

  • This question has come up many times, and the general consensus seems to be that yes, Fitday's calories burned are quite high. From what I gather, most people have better luck with setting their activity level to "sedentary" and only adding in intentional exercise. Also, if you add sleep as an activity for however many hours you sleep each night, it will decrease your calories, which I think is more accurate. Good luck!
  • Yup, what Jilly said. I have mine set at 'bedridden' I think it's called.
  • That was my experience, too. It gave me way too high a number for my personal metabolism. I didn't gain weight, but I didn't lose either, until I figured it out.

  • I have found it to be remarkably accurate for me. However, I do NOT add extra activities, like housekeeping, mowing lawn, etc. to my daily activities chart. Unless I do a high intensity workout (which I normally don't do) I leave the numbers as is. I have an excel spreadsheet that I input calories burned vs. eaten and divide the total number by 3500 to see the total pounds I should have lost based on the math. The scales are usually right with this number. It may take a couple of days to catch due to water retention, etc., but every week or so they should be saying the same thing. If they are not, I know that I am either not reporting my food correctly, missing some food that I actually ate, or over reporting "extra" activities. My overall experience though, is it is very accurate.
