Hello,
I haven't yet been diagnosed. But I have read up on some PCOS material. I have all of the tell tale signs. (i.e. hair growth, the whole weight thing, crazy cycles, brown spots, etc). However, my ultrasound didn't show the "string of pearls" that I've read about.
Now, I do have accelerated insulin (22). I am going for more labs today. Is this a sign of PCOS/IR? I haven't heard of IR and am not really sure what that would be.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
I'm not a doctor, but my physician did say that PCOS and Insulin Resistance are found in combo. in a lot of people. I have both. My insulin level was in the 40's. they put me on Glucophage 500mg. twice a day. It wasn't enough. So, now I am on 850mg. twice a day. My blood sugar is normal. I haven't had any problems taking the weight off with lowered carb eating as my Dr. suggested to me. Good luck and best wishes for a successful weight loss journey.
Both conditions can occur seperately but usually woman with PCOS have some form of Insulin resistance.
I don't have the "string of pearls" either. My body tends to form cysts in the form of acne like ones or single cysts on my ovaries. My insulin at one point was over 50. Now my dr only uses the cpeptide test to determine the insulin resistance I am dealing with.
PCOS is a syndrome so there are so many different combos of symptoms that women can have. Good luck and hopefully your dr will get you on meds that will work for you.
