Birthday Gift Ideas for 18 year olds

  • I have twins (boy/girl) that are turning 18 on September 2nd. And I need ideas for gifts! I am on a budget but I do have a couple hundred to spend on each, but I am drawing a complet blank on ideas! Help!!
  • How about gift certificates to their favorite stores? Or are they needing anything for college that you could get for their b-day?
Maybe you could have a nice dinner out with both of them then spend the remaining money on gift certificates or a day out with you.... I can't even think what I wanted when I was 18 except to move out! LOL
  • At the age of 16, for our kids, we just started giving them cash so they could buy what they wanted ~ then we would take them out to dinner, with the other kids, to one of the family's favorite restaurants. Happy birthday to your kids.

P.S. ~ As they got older and earned their own money they wanted "gifts" again!
  • I remember when my neice turned 18, her mom thru her a party at chuck-e-cheese. Boy was she embarrased but one of the gifts that she received was... Chutes & Ladders. I know that might sound like a cheesy gift but I thought it was cute. That was her FAVORITE game when she was little. Brought back swonderful memories for her.. and us since we all played it with her.
  • Here is a couple of ideas. You said you had a couple of hundred to spend on each how about an i-pod if they don't have one? They run about $149 for a nice one with the color screen. Or how about a pay as you go cell phone, you buy the phone and a beginning minutes card and then they pay for the minutes after that. No contract so you won't be responsible for anything. Their parents might like that idea so they don't have to pay for their cell phones if they have them. Or a gift card to their favorite store is a good idea also. Good luck.
  • Wow! Lucky kids. I'm sure they'll be grateful for whatever you decide since it comes with love!
  • gift certificates to a local movie theater... my kids love them
  • A card filled with certificates is always nice. You could put in $40 in gas cards, (sounds weird but they really appreciate it with the price of gas these days) 2 movie tickets, $25 Kohls certificate, and a $25 Quiznos certificate.
  • All hail the mighty and wonderfulness that is gift cards!
If I never got anything as a gift besides gift cards for the rest of my life I'd be set. Gift cards to stores you know you kids love is even better!
  • 18???? Cash please. My daughter has only wanted cash since she turned 11. Gift cards don't ever seem to be for the right place in the right amount. And no way on earth can I pick out clothing for her.
  • cash...or a lava lamp.
  • For my sisters 18th I have bought her a pendant with onxy and topaz (for her star stone and birth stone) set it in sterling silver because thats the metal she loves.

My other sister is turning 21 a month later and I have got her a pendant as well, this time set in gold with onxy and amythest (again star stone/birth stone)

I already have a pendant with ruby and onyx (star stone/birth stone)

I liked the idea because the onyx links the three of us as sisters but the different second gem nods to the differences in our personalities.

I'm a bit of a sentimental sap though

  • I'm 18. Really, all I want is cash!

But make it personal, you know? Pick two days out of the week that work for you. On one day, take your son out. Make an entire day of it. Shopping, lunch, dinner, maybe even dancing! Next day, do the same with your daughter. 18 is the age where you begin wanting to be close with your parents again. It's a really special birthday, spend it getting to know them better. Time means so much more than money.

And congratulations, you have two new adults in your life!
  • Cash! I remember when I was 18, opening up a card filled with cash, it brough tears to my eyes. lol
