Help with a new pedometer

  • I bought an Everlast Pedometer at the mall. I cleared it and put it on my shoe last night. It recorded 300 steps in a couple hrs. which was probably pretty accurate. Then, since I was in the house, I took my shoes off and put it on a strap around my ankle. It recorded 600 more steps while I was sitting still. What happened? Where should I put it when I don't have shoes on ? I tried hooking it through my belt loop and walking and it didn't record anything. I am trying to do the 10,000 a day step challenge. Can anyone help me. I am totally new to this piece of equipment. Should I take it back and get a different kind? What would you suggest? I read the instruction booklet and it just said put it on and walk. No clue as to where to put it and what would make it work correctly. Thanks for any suggestions.
  • I have a pedometer that says i took a step when i sneeze or cough. It is hyper sensitive to any movement. You may not have been taking steps but if you moved around at all it could have recorded it as steps.
I didn't put mine on my ankle or shoes. I clipped mine on my waistband.
  • I clip mine on my sock...and I take it off when I'm sitting to make sure I don't get any "fake" steps from jiggling around, etc.
  • WEll yes I would take it back if it said THAT! I tried a bunch of them before I took some advice her on 3FC and ordered the Omron HJ-112 from Amazon. Best decision ever! Only thing is it doesn't clip well on pants, etc... pretty much need a pocket to carry it in. I did once rig it on a lanyard though around my neck and it did okay.
