Recipe Software

  • Hi everyone, I made some shrimp gumbo today and I need to know how to figure the points. I have read somewhere here there is either a website or software that you can enter all the ingredients and it will give you the nutrition value for the recipe. Can anyone tell me how to get this? Do you have to buy it?

Thanks a million for your help.
  • I think there's a program called mastercook or something similar. there is also a recipe builder on etools - if you want to email the recipe to sarah(@)dishy(.)ca I can put the info in and let you know the points
  • try this website

  • I use Living Cookbook (search "living cookbook" at google)- it is a pay application, though it does have a trial period before you have to register so you can try it out.

What I like about it: it's easy to enter recipies, the nutritional info is quite accurate, you can add in your own ingredients if there is something not listed (the list is huge), you can scale recipies easily, you can even print out recipe books and cards. It gives you the nutritional info per portion and the estimated price per portion of each recipe.

What I don't like: there can some times be a few harder steps in doing some things- adding in a new ingredient can be a little tricky at times (not always), it took me a while to figure out how to print a recipe card the way I like it.

All in all, I liked it enough to pay for it, and would recommend anyone to at least look it over.
  • Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
I tried the Calorie-Count.com website. It's really cool! I played around for a few hours in fact, journaling my food log and activity for today.
I like it, it's free, and it did my recipe for me too.
  • I use Mastercook. I bought the software at Bestbuy about $10.00 Canadian but it's probably cheaper than that in the U.S.
  • I discoevered this site a few weeks ago. Sometimes it's a little quirky and you have to readjust your recipe portions, but i think that only happened when I hit the back button.
