Menu, groceries, faves and tips for newby

  • Just trying to get back into WW after a few years off. Can any one give me tips on food that they just can't live without. Best points foods etc. I'm sure a lot of that is in the boards somewhere but unfortunately at work and don't have a lot of time to surf. best snack foods easy meals, etc.
  • I'm not currently on WW, but have been in the past. My absolute favorite 'cheat' was Fat Free Pringles! 15 for only 1 point and if you binge (!), it's only 7 points for the whole can. I don't recommend it...but you won't feel as bad as if they were the full fat variety! Read labels for fiber. The more fiber the better because it drops your points a bit. Sugar free Klondike Bars and Skinny Cow frozen desserts are great for only a couple of points as well.
  • Some of my favorite foods are:

egg whites (hard boiled--usually stuffed with hummus)
Laughing Cow Light (usually stuffed in celery as a snack)
SF pudding snacks (the caramel is my favorite)
    WW giant fudge bars
FF feta cheese w/green beans & TJ's roasted pepper sauce
    FF cottage cheese
    salmon (canned or TJs patties)
    Sara Lee Delightful Wheat bread
  • No Points value Veggie soup...this stuff is good! Got it right from WW online, pm me anytime if you'd like to swap email addy's and I can send you more recipes.
    Ingredients:
    2 medium garlic clove(s), minced
    1 medium onion(s), diced
    2 medium carrot(s), diced

    1 medium stalk celery, diced
    2 small zucchini, diced
    2 cup green cabbage, shredded
    2 cup Swiss chard, chopped
    2 cup cauliflower, small florets
    2 cup broccoli, small florets
    2 tsp thyme, chopped
    6 cup vegetable broth
2 Tbsp parsley, or chives, fresh, chopped
1/2 tsp table salt, or to taste
1/4 tsp black pepper, or to taste
2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice, optional
    Directions:
Put garlic, vegetables, thyme and broth into a large soup pot. Cover and bring to a boil over high heat; reduce heat to low and simmer 10 minutes.
Stir in parsley or chives; season to taste with salt, pepper and lemon juice. Yields about 1 cup per serving
  • Best point foods for me - fresh fruits, fresh veggies, bran flakes cereal, air popped popcorn, hummus and I can't get enough salad!

Fave snacks and lunch items for me:
    Low fat granola bars
    triscuits with laughing cow cheese
    fruit of all kinds
    veggies and dips
Renee's Naturally Light dressings for salad
Clover Leaf single serving canned tuna (comes in a variety of flavours)
Natural peanut butter from a health food store
Black & Greens organic chocolate - bliss!
    Pringles low fat chips
    Triscuit thins (triangles)
    Stone Ground crackers
Healthy Choice puddings and fat free fudge bars
    Catelli whole wheat pastas
    Whole wheat couscous
Celestial Seasons decaf Chai tea - spicy, aromatic and a nice treat - add sugar and milk and it cures my sweet cravings.
  • I agree about the fresh fruit & veggies - most all fruit and veggies are 0 or 1 pt.
I like NSA pudding cups. I think they are 60 cals each and they taste good. There are lots of low point ice cream treats out there now - Healthy Choice, Skinny Cow, WW, Blue Bunny.
I also like the 100-cal bags of microwave popcorn - great portion control!
  • Oh Rumplesnat! Don't even mention those FF Pringles! I have to limit them at my house. OOOOh they are so good.
I always keep a low point soup in the refrig at my house.
    My favorite 2pt/cup soup is:
    DONNA’S TACO SOUP

    INGREDIENTS:
½ Pound Extra Lean Ground Beef
    1 large onion-chopped
    1 large bell pepper-chopped
    3 carrots- grated
1 large celery stalk- chopped thin
1 (10 oz.) can mild Rotel tomatoes
1 (15 oz) can Tomato sauce
1 (15 oz) can fat free Chicken broth
1 (11 oz) can Niblets corn
1 (15 oz) can Cannelini beans
1 (15 oz) can Fat free refried beans
2 (15 oz) cans Ranch style Black beans
    1 envelope Taco seasoning mix
1 (15 oz) can Mexican stewed tomatoes

    Directions:
Brown ground beef, chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, grated carrots and chopped celery in a large pot. Cook until the meat is fully cooked and the onions are translucent.
Drain meat and open all the cans and dump into pot and mix together well, add Taco seasoning mix. Let cook for about 30 minutes and it ready. Even better the next day.

Great with a salad and very filling

WW points- 2 points per cup
    I also keep
    low point sandwich bread
FF bologna -you can tell I'm a southern girl!!!
2% american cheese slices and shreded cheese
    plenty of lettuce
    salsa
    low fat sour cream
    low fat ground beef
    chicken breast
    Rice Krispie treats- small size-2pts
Skinny cow ice cream sandwiches- 2pts
Usually some kind of WW or lean cuisines so if I don't have time to cook, I can pop it in the microwave and add a salad and I have a meal or add a low cal vegetable with it.
  • My WW leader always asks us if we have any "new" foods. I brought in a whole bag of empty packages last week!

These are the things that will make me do the "yummy dance". (You know, when you sit down to eat and rub your hands together, bounce up and down, and say "Yummy, yummy, yummy!")

Lean Cuisine's Asian Potstickers- 5 pts (BIG "yummy dance"), I add a little soy sauce to the rice and I am in heaven. I just "up" the water that day!

Lean Cuisine's Paninis- 6 pts- I like them all!

Munch 'ems granola snacks- 3 pts for the single serving bag- I love these because they have a pretty decent amount of nutrition in them and they taste like crunchy granola bars, but are easier on my teeth!

Danon's Light & Fit yogurt smoothies- 1 pt and they do the trick when I need to curb my hunger!

Hershey Sticks-1 pt a piece- this is a new one that I first read about on these boards! If you are a chocoholic and need your daily fix, these help to keep you from going overboard.

WW Giant Fudge Bars- 1 pt- BIG "yummy dance". You know something is good when your children would rather eat your "diet" stuff than their full-fat ice cream!

Sara Lee "delightful" wheat bread- 2 pieces for 1 pt

Captain Ken's chicken chili- 6 pts for the whole package- Super tasty and lots of good fiber. Found in the frozen foods.

That's all I can think of right now!
