  • Well, it's almost July anyway. At work for one more day, then a long weekend.

Kerry, Keep up that walking - nice job getting your stepson involved. You can motivate each other. Yes the summer is flying by.

Phantastica, Yes good way to fit in that exercise. I am doing something similar...I found out that one of our TOPs members works in the same business complex as me and we've been meeting at lunch a couple of times a week to walk around the pond here. It's about a mile around or if we get bored we can take a short path down to the Erie Canal bike path and walk there. She also just lost her husband of 30 years - he went into the hospital for gall bladder surgery and never came home. Got some secondary infection. Boy, sometimes it seems like hospitals are risky places to be. Anyway, I didn't know her very well, (she is a relatively new TOPs member), and I decided that she probabaly could use a few friends and diversions right now. I was worried at first that I wouldn't know what to say, but I shouldn't have been. She just needs someone who will listen and be a friend. Well, I've gone on longer than I meant to. Should get to work now.

    Have a great weekend everyone!!
  • Yay for new friends!
That's excellent, Lyn! Walking partners are awesome.

There's a woman in my department who likes to do a 20-minute walk on lunch, and she occasionally drags me with. It's not a hard-core cardio activity, but I don't mind. It's about me simply moving my butt, at this point!

I found out that three of my recent thrift-store purchases need mending ... hems, small rips along a seam, etc., so I will be doing some of that this weekend. My DS is going to his dad's house until Sunday, so I'm happy to have him on the actual 4th. I work on Monday, but get Tuesday off.

My best friend and fellow TOPS member is going to meet me for walks on Saturday, possibly Sunday, and Tuesday mornings. We will walk from her house to downtown (6 miles), have breakfast at Panera, then take a bus home. Since the farmer's market will be happening, I asked her if we could also loop that in. She wants to leave at 6:45am so we beat the mid-day heat, and that totally sucks for me, but I'll do it anyway. Yay, more friend-bonding and exercise!

Ooh! And I have a NSV today: I'm wearing a shirt I haven't been able to wear for at least two years. I'm going to try to remember to try on clothes every few weeks, because just two weeks ago this shirt was slightly uncomfortable.
  • TGIF Ladies!
I can't believe the week flew by this quickly. But I am proud to say that I was able to workout everyday and even pushed myself a little harder the last two days with my excerise. So come July 11th, hopeful the scales will be down just a bit more.
Lyn, that is great that you were able to make a walking buddy and be of help to her at the same time. Plus what a great way to get to better know a new TOPS member. My sds and I actually jogged a little bit at the lake yesterday, since there were not many people out there walking and jogging. So I felt comfortable enough with being able to jog again. I haven't done it since I was a young girl in middle school. So that has been a few years ago. But I would like to gradually build up to that point again. So I think I will try to do that more often with him and his siblings when they are at our house and the weather permits it.
Phantastica, that is great news about your shirt fitting. Don't you just love that feeling when clothes get too tight and you can't wear them anymore and then you go back after losing some weight and they fit better. I hope you enjoy your time to yourself this weekend. My hubby and I are also kid-free this weekend. I am hoping to get to Curves again in the morning and put in a walk or two out at the lake. Plus spend some time with my hubby. I know tonight we are suppose to go out with a friend to BW3's for dinner. I am good when I go there. I get a garden salad and then just eat a few of my husband's wings.
Well I better go and get in the shower. I am a little sweaty and sticky from my workout at Curves this morning. After I did my Curves workout, I got on the treadmill that the owner bought for the members to use and walked 2 miles on it for about 32 minutes. So I think I better get my stinking self motivated to the shower soon. LOL
    Have a great weekend!
    Talk to you all later.
    Kerry
  • Happy Saturday
    Good morning,

Thank you all so much for your encuragement. It sounds like you are all doing well with exerciseing I'm working on it.

Anyone who ever is in the Denver ariea is welcome to come over for dinner any time. aslong as you don't mind salad as your main meal

Phantastica good going on the shirt but what does NSV mean I've seen it easle where and had no Idea.

Thursday and Friday are my days off and Thursday was a day with my mom bingo then a doctors apointment then diner/lunch and caped off with a swing consert in the park.

Friday I had to have a redue root canal so I was out of comishion most of the day.

now today is July 1st so I'm recomiting to my eating program I have even decided to give up my Wednesday Breakfast club for the month in replace for a pilates class.

I hope everyone has a good day and a wonderful week and month.
  • GG, NSV = Non-Scale Victory. Root canal, yay. Swing concert with your mom sounds awesome!

I walked just a ton today with my friend J. We walked downtown, then walked to the Farmers' Market, and took a bus home. The walk downtown was six miles, so we probably did about 8 miles altogether. Yay, go us! We're doing it again tomorrow morning, and again on Tuesday morning.

I received my TOPS charm bracelet in the mail today! I have "earned" a few charms ... I have a weight-recorder charm, a scale charm, a "pledged to lose" charm, and the TOPS pledge charm, and now I can put them on the bracelet!
  • say hello to the best loser of the month for CO #41 and the winer of the June contest. This is te first time I won and I was so excited. have a good day all I hope your 4th was good and safe.
  • YAY you, GG! WTG!!

I've been pathetically off-track the past few days. I think it started with a gain at my weigh-in on Monday.
  • Three Cheers for You, GG

    Wow! Nice going!

    Keep up the great progress!

It's Friday - Hooray! I'm back on track after the July 4th picnics etc. My vacation starts next week so I will be off line for a while. Going to Norway!! We had an exchange student from Norway 4 years ago and now we are going over there to visit her family and see the country. We leave next Wednesday. I'm SOOOOOO excited.

  • OK, I need a SKITA (Swift Kick in the A**) this week. The first half of the week wasn't bad. Wednesday, however, I knew my son was going to be gone for the weekend, so I took him out to dinner (thinking that would be our one-dinner-out-per-week meal). I ordered whatever I wanted and ate it all. Thursday night, a friend needed some emergency computer help, so I fixed that for him and "payment" was him taking me out for Mexican. I did save half of my entree, but I didn't make a very healthy choice.

Now tonight, a friend invited me over for an impromptu dinner party. I initially said yes, but emailed today and cancelled because the rich food has to STOP if I want to have a decent weigh-in on Monday. I told her to call me if she was interested in walking later on, though. Anyway, I also cancelled dinner plans with another friend this weekend, but I changed it to a bike ride after work tonight instead.

So, that's what's on for my weekend. I'm also frustrated and a little angry because both my aunt and my mother dropped off unhealthy food while I was at work yesterday (bars, ice cream, and potato chips ... "for my son"). I came home from work yesterday, famished, with bars sitting on my kitchen table. They could have warned me at least, so I could mentally prepare. As it was, I ended up eating all six one-inch-square bars. It's bad enough to have to fend off food in public, but to have unwanted bad choices in your own kitchen makes me really irritated.
  • ok you asked for it but I always falow that up with a have a good week end you made wise choices in canceling a food related activitve for a active one good for you.

    G
  • Man, I gained 2 pounds this week. Sucks, but I figured it would happen that way. I ate restaurant food too frequently, had an emotional binge Saturday night, and then had a pot-luck Sunday. I did exercise, so I probably should have gained quite a bit more, but still. Better week ahead this week!
  • thats the spirt pick your self up dust your self off and start all over again. how was the wedding?

within our circle of friendship we'll fin the help that wee need.

    G
  • Actually, it was a pre-wedding celebration. It went well - lots of family, friends, and children. Gorgeous day, bad food choices. LOL.

The wedding is in a few months and I'll be in it, maid of honor. Luckily, the bride is NOT a bridezilla.
  • Hi everybody! I SO need to start coming here more often to check in, but I have so many "internet" places that I go to!!! If I could quit scrapbooking, I wouldn't have such a problem, but I can't give it up! So I am on scrap sites and my online school site all day. I need to make a daily checklist of all the "places" I need to visit!

Sounds like everyone is doing well! Lyn, that is so awesome that you are making frineds with that poor woman who obviously needs some. And think, when I had my gall bladder out last year , I was like "no big deal".

Phan- your NSV is freaking awesome! Having clothes fit again is the absolute best! I have like 6 pairs of pants that will fit in about another 15 pounds and I am driven (this week at least-LOL)! Great job with trading dinners with friends to workouts with friends! I need a friend like you!

GGG- congrats on being loser of the month and winning your June contest! That is fab!

KAR- great job with your workout and you are much better at BW-3's than I am!!! I love wings and I HATE iceburg lettuce! I guess I am a lettuce snob now! First of all, it makes me sick (IBS) and I think it tastes terrible compared to boston and butter lettuce or even spinach. Those are what I normally buy.

Hope everyone is having a great month. We didn't have a meeting last week so there were 2 weeks instead of the normal one in between meetings and I was SO BAD! I am not gonna change my ticker yet though, we'll see if I can take it off this week!
  • Hi everyone,
Sorry I have been MIA for a week or so. But I have been busy taking my stepkids to their doctor appointments and taking care of them through out the day while their dad is at work. But I was able to find a few free minutes to come on and check in with everyone. I am not having a good week this week. We had to take my one stepson to the hospital on Monday for his shoulder that his twin brother pulled on. Tuesday I had to go take the other stepson to his eye specialist. Tuesday evening I had a weigh-in with a 1/2 pound gain. Yesterday took the injured child to the orthopedic specialist to find out that he has a fracture in his shoulder. Had a fight with my spouse about my weight gain. He thinks because I was at 195 last summer that I should be at 160 this summer. He doesn't understand the struggles and temperations that I go through daily with being a school teacher and the goodies at school and what ever goodies the kids want. Then today I had to go to the dentist to find out that my stepson has an infection in his mouth and needs to pull out two of his baby teeth to let the new teeth come in. So I have been a little stressed and down in the dumps this week. But I have not gave into stress eating. Which is amazing! So I am hoping to have a loss at next weeks meeting. But I didn't think my gain was that bad since it was over a two week period. I could have done worse.
Lyn, I hope you have a safe and pleasant vacation. Going to Norway sounds like a lot of fun! I am sure you well enjoy visiting with your foriegn exchange student and her family.
Phantastica, sorry about your two pound gain. But you will do better this coming week since you know what your triggers are and will work hard to over come them. I know what you mean about the tempting foods. We went to a July 4th party and they had homemade brownies there. I found myself going back and getting just one more little piece a couple different times throughout the day. Hope your week has been going well for you so far. I only was able to workout two days so far this week, due to running back and forth to doctor's appointments and by that time my gym is closed. I would take a walk at the local state park, but it is either raining in the evenings or too bloody hot out that I get nasty headaches from the heat. But I am glad that you are able to switch dinner dates with your friends for excerise dates. Keep up the great work!
GG, congrats on being your chapters biggest loser for the month of June and winning your contest! Way to go,lady! So what was your chapter's contest? We will be finishing up our Biggest Loser contest next week. We had it running since the beginning of Jan. I think our next contest will be called The Traveling Box ( a person takes the box home and puts it in their fridge for 4 weeks, if they have a gain or miss a meeting they have to give the box back. But if they loss 4 weeks in a row, they get a small prize) So that should be a lot of fun. I think we are all going to come up with positive comments to put in the box,for encourgment when the person feels liking cheating or did cheat with their weight-loss journey.
Jennie, I am sure that you will do fine when you go to your next TOPS meeting. Sounds like you keep yourself busy daily. Thanks for checking in with us. I was starting to wonder where you had went and if everything was okay with you.
Well I need to go check in with another group of my 3FatChicks pals, so I will chat with you all later . Have a great evening!
