Anyone with a really early positive??

  • Hey all! Just wondering if you guys have ever experienced a positive home pg test 4 days before your missed period. I had the intuition (and a dream) that day, took one, and blammo. It was a 100 mcg test, I think, which makes me really wonder if I'm wonder if this may potentially be multiples. Probably NOT, but my family is pretty heavy with them and we are thrilled at the possibility of having one more in our family.

Gotta go grab a snack since I just woke up from my 2 hour nap. I have never been this symptomatic this soon, either. My boobs have been tender for a week and I get hungrier and sleepier more than usual.
  • There are some tests that can detect that early but I'm not sure about the 100 mcg tests. Could your dates be off?
  • Yeah, sounds to me like the most likely thing is that your dates are off. Is it possible you ovulated earlier in your cycle than you normally do? If your mom or grandmom have fraternal twins, there's a higher chance for you (identical twins don't count). Best thing to do is go get a quantitative HCG test from the doctor's office; they'll be able to look at the numbers and see if they're within the range for a singleton or not--and there's really a humongous range of normal even in the early going.

Good luck! I've seen a lot of mamas with twins lately, and each pair naturally concieved.
  • I've never had an early positive, but from what I know, tests don't give false positives. Good luck!
  • I have had an early positive test before-a couple of days before my period was due. Some of the tests can detect a few days before your period is due now, most can a day or two before your period is due, and almost all can on the day you should have your period-unless your dates are off.

I "knew" as well way, way before I would have ever shown a positive test this time around...actually the night after conception. I woke up in the middle of the night with the "feeling" and suddenly became sick to my stomach and ran to the bathroom...and suddenly just "knew". Right on schedule, a couple days later, my breasts started feeling really sore (they never get sore during pms) and I kept telling my husband. I took a test about every 4-5 days until it finally showed up positive on Christmas-I believe it would have been a couple of days before my period was actually due as well. I knew it already, but just had to wait until there was enough of the hormone to detect it.

I wouldn't worry so much about a multiple just yet...different things, such as the time of day you take the test...how long it has been since you last urinated before taking the test, and other things like that will also determine exactly how much of the hormone is in your urine.

Go ahead and make your appointment, and when they do your labwork or first ultrasound, then any possibility of multiples will be found then. When they test the hormone levels in your bloodwork-it is much more accurate as far as hormone levels than the urine tests for detecting multiples.

    Oh...and congratulations.
  • Well, I took the test at night, but I took it because I knew my urine was concentrated since I had been outside all day and hadn't really been pushing the fluid like I should have. Slap my wrist, I know.

I have REALLY obvious signs of ovulation plus we were trying to get pregnant and I mentally logged every time we tried. I don't think my dates are off, but who knows. My husband told me last night I was like a girl Superman for knowing I have been pregnant so long and feeling almost every change in my body It MAY just be that I know my body very well now after 2 previous pregnancies. My sister pointed out that it COULD be a girl, and every pregnancy is different anyway. I am a little queasy this morning, but it is not morning sickness queasiness. It's just that hollow stomach where you need something to eat. I have reverted back to the breakfast I had every morning with my son...whole wheat pb tst with half a banana and milk. I figure if it contributed to him being such a great kid, why not try to catch lightning in a bottle?

I had quit trying to lose weight and wanted to stabilize, and this pregnancy has been so good for that. I am eating whenever I am hungry, but this whole "earth mother" thing has come across me and I am eating all kids of fruits, veggies, lean protein, lowfat dairy, and whole grain stuff. I've given up most of the caffeine...whenever I drink up this last gallon of tea in the fridge I'm buying decaf. Anyway, I'm excited!
  • I am so glad for you! That is great to happen when you were trying to conceive. All of my babies have been "surprises".

Yeah...I always "know" my body and my pregnancies right away, too. It always amazes me to hear those stories where a woman goes in with a stomachache to the ER...and they find out she is in labor and like 8 months pregnant! Even if you continued to spot or menstruate like some women do...how could you not feel the baby moving, or feel the shortness of breath in the last trimester from their size, etc.? Amazing...
  • I took my test (we were trying) a little early, but my cycle had been a little off the month before, so I wasn't really sure of my dates. I got the faintest pink line in the world, and I didn't know if that meant I could be pregnant or if it was just telling me that's WHERE the line would be if there was one. (obviously hadn't done this before) So I woke up the next morning (when you're really supposed to test usually?) and used the other test and this line was even fainter/almost non-existant. So annoying. 4 or 5 days later my period still hadn't come so I made DH go buy more tests. We were definitely pregnant! It was so crazy... I had also been tireder and rather grumpy. Congratulations probably!
  • I don't know. I used First Response tests about two weeks after I ovulated but I knew before then that I was pregnant. I just put the test off until I knew it would show up positive. I O'd on May 2 and was positive on May 15.
