  • it's a great start, but htere are some things in there that might not be entirely accurate - like the fact that iron should be taken by only menstruating women. not so! mine have stopped, and i need supplements.

sooo, it's a wonderful general guide, but it's not complete
  • Interesting page Leens, but I also question a couple of things. How can they have a 10 year average statistical loss in the US for the band if it's only been approved by the FDA for 5 or 6 years? Also, the part about lapbanders having to consume less than 800 calories a day for 18 - 36 months is a new one to me. Trust me, I consume way more than that and have for quite a while!

It's a good place to start though.

  • Chickadee I agree, I eat more than 800 calories easy peasy. Maybe the 10 years includes clinical studies??? I'm sure they had to run studies before they released it to the public. Dunno?
  • I think so too Leeni.. It's been around for a while before it was approved.. I am glad I found my surgery there cuz there's always so little about it.. I had the vertical gasterectomy.. I really hope that I don't EVER regain, although I just put on 2.4 pounds, but am not changing the ticker cuz I am taking them down again!!!
  • When did you have your surgery Della?
  • March 19th.. A bit over 3 months now..

The band has been around since 1985. Inamed invented their version - the Lap-Band - in 1993.

The US didn't approved adjustable gastric banding until it had been around quite a while everywhere else. I bet they're using statistics from Europe or Australia.
