Little things you do to burn extra calories?

  • Hi everyone-
Maybe this has been a thread before, I'm not sure...but I thought it would be nice to throw out ideas of what you do to burn extra calories throughout the day

    Things I do:

-I try to do 100 squats with 10 lb dumbells every morning and every evening
-10 pushups every am and pm
-"swimming" on my stomach (on the floor) every day
-squats when I brush my teeth
-Park far away when I go to the store
-I work in a hospital and I walk a TON! During my breaks I walk the halls for exercise
-Walks with my boyfriend in the evening
-During breaks in my 5 hour nursing class I get up and walk the halls

I'll add more when I think of it
  • Ooh, the 'swimming' is a gooooooood idea! Me, I stopped bringing my water bottle to work so I have to get up more often. Doing this has actually helped me drink more water, as I feel antsy if I sit still for too long. Other than that, walking is my main exercise so I walk everywhere while the weather and my joints permit it!
  • I need to start doing little things like these, right now I'm still trying to make excercise a daily habit for me. I think once it becomes second nature I'll work on incorporating things like these.
  • Hmmmm

    - Take the stairs at work (Thats up the the 8th floor) at least twice daily.
    - Go walking around the streets at lunch
    - Get up and down and walk about at work every 10-15mins
    - Dance at home (usually 10 mins before work and up to an hour in the evenings)
    - Walk to the shops - thats 5kms away

There are probably more but thats it for off the top of my head

My main exercise is a 45-50 minute run 5-7 days a week.

  • Squats while you're brushing your teeth -- great idea! That's a good three minutes I could be doing something other than just standing around!

My only contribution is that I send my print jobs at work to the printer way down the hall instead of the one two feet to my left. That way I have to get up to fetch them instead of just rolling over in my chair... I also try to get out at lunch time if the weather is nice and I'm wearing okay shoes to walk in.
