Rant approaching. Be warned!

Well I'm an adamant hater. I always hope they go out fast, but it still bores on whatever! If I hear another word about 1966, or Bobby Charlton (the only footballer I've ever heard of) then I think I might throw up...

I used to play it as a kid and quite enjoyed that - but don't for the life of me understand why anyone watches sport - why not do it? The number of er.. rotund, middle aged men you see wobbling about in football strip every however many years it is... why d they think that would help the team win? Why not get fit if you've spent £100 on sport clothes? I just don't get it!!!

I've never been one of those women who pretend to like the fussball, just to impress men either. Football and cars are boring. Get over it, boys!

And as for this new obsession with putting England flags on anything that moves.. that has to be the chavvest thing ever. Why would anyone declare to the world they're a thug? I don't get it... And would putting a flag on your car make that ugly one (whatever his name is) work any harder to score a goal? What's the point?

One of the worst football related things ever happened to me was during the last world cup - I had to be in hospital for 3 weeks, upto the delivery of my baby, because of a complication. In our ward there was a telly - I lost count of the number of times some wobbly skinhead or other lurched in and turned the TV over (despite the patients all being women) to the fussball. After a while I just stood up and turned it back, with a glare, or got a nurse to tell them off - but it was torture, being stuck in a bed, unable to move and FORCED to watch a load of silly overpaid poodles running up and down, kissing eachother and chasing a bit of leather. They're paid more than doctors, or teachers, or anyone that has a really useful life. I don't get why our society values that, as a skill.

Is it just me hates the fussball? The other women didn't utter a peep, and let them do it - but I thought it was rude and ignorant. And my idea of **** - imagine being stuck in a place where at any moment, you're forced to sit through something that's marginally less interesting than watching paint dry!

I don't mind horse racing because you can have a proper gamble on that but as for fussball...

Anyone else hate this awful thing that comes round every 4 years, wrecking the good TV? Or do you love it? Why? Oh and whilst I'm at it... why do they take Coro St off or change the time of it just for some obscure match between two places I'm never going to go to anyway... when that is the top rated show, and no football match on earth can have more than 6 viewers, surely???

I don't know why I don't like fussball as I normally love anything camp - and let's face it, the overpaid, preening morons with their expensive hair-dos and stringy girlfriends and the whole thing really is camp as a row of tents - but I can't even laugh at it. Would be easier if it weren't everywhere.

The irony is, when I was a teacher, I had to teach it. My kids were a killer team as well - other staff used to comment on how competitive, and good, they were!

I like the world cup it's fun (until I see hoolies on the news). I used to like football quite a bit when I was younger but now I'm really not fussed. I certainly don't like it to impress blokes! The flags I'm sick of and the strips oh and drunk fans I hate them. Oh and footballers they're annoying too.

As I sit here in my England shirt and flags on the wall watching Trinidad and Tobago v Sweden I will admit to loving it

Love, Love, LOVE it! I am a lifelong Liverpool supporter and go to most matches. I dont follow football to impress men (and anyone who does is pathetic!) nor do I fancy any of the players. I just love the game.
As for England, I think it is FANTASTIC to see the flag waving, it is incredibly insulting to say that it makes you a thug, when it certainly does not. It is about time we showed our national flag with pride. I think that if the world cup gets people being patriotic and coming together to support the national team, then it is a great thing.
Yeah, football has it's ugly sides *restrains herself from making numerous comments about Gary Neville* but that is a minority of people who have no interest in the game, just the stirring of trouble and violence. These types of people are little more than scum and have affected how other people view football supporters, be it your local team or our national team. The main thing is that most people who support football do so from a genuine love of the game. Sorry for those who hate it, but hey at least it only comes around once every few years!
The thing I hate about football is the 'footballers wives',who gives a toss how many thousands of pounds worth of clothing they are wearing? These women have never done a days work in their lives and I do not care to hear about their days spent shopping. I also agree that fotballers are overpaid. Of course they are, but then there is a lot of money in the game and American sportstars get paid a heck of a lot more, so it is just one of those un-just things in life.

I hate it. A lot. Hate hate hate.

Like it. I started playing when I was 7 and my last game was 8! (eep it's been long) years ago. My brother also started playing at 7 and is still going strong on his college team. So, between that and a father who grew up with the game as well......... you can imagine what has been on the tv recently. Which I don't mind; it is definately better (IMO) than watching golf or tennis.

I do not like any sports much and do not watch it on telly but not that anti. My mum whined about it on the telly but I reminded her how much she loves tennis and snooker. How she and my dad can get excited over that. Now I do hate that with a passion!!!

However I am bored when I read a colleagues paper and it is full of football.

What I have enjoyed watching is the Isle of Wight festival. I loved the Prodigy, absolutely amazing! Foo fighters and Lou Reed. Yeah! Wish I had been there.

I'm not really a big fan of watching any sports on telly, and I hate it when they move or cancel the programmes I like to watch to put on sport, (particularly when it's golf or snooker). I don't like football myself, but I am mellowing in my dislike as I get older.

However, I do like the pride and the fun that surrounds things like the world cup. I like it that people want to display flags (of whatever nation they support) and if I liked football, I'm sure that going to the pub with your friends to watch the team you support must be great fun, and in some ways I'm a little sad that I can't be part of that. What I do think is sad, is that the UK is separated into England, Wales, Scotland etc. I'd rather that we played as the UK, and created a bit of unity rather than the dislike and enmity it seems to create. As a Scot who has always lived in England, I feel very sad about the dislike some Scots have of the English, which seems to be emphasised every time we play as separate teams. I even have relatives who will not talk to my side of the family because we moved to England. I don't know if this would be improved if our teams were UK teams, but I like to think that it would create a greater unity among us.

Pachyderm - I must admit the St George cross still has connotations of BNP, for me, I know it shouldn't - but it does. I don't really want to see it. I have no problem with the Union Flag - it is the prettiest flag there is, anyway! I'd also prefer a British team - but only because George Best was so goodlooking, better than any frumpy Englishman. Oops that's another footballer's name I know!

I grew up near Leeds and the Leeds fans in the 70s were the ones that started all the violence, racism etc that later became endemic. So when I think of football, my first thought is 'thugs' - again, probably just a product of my age.

I know some women genuinely like football in their own right but I do think many others only pretend to like it. I think it should know it's own place - Hackney Marshes on a Sunday morning, or whatever. Not on our TV screens.

At least it's better than the US sports things that call themselves 'world series' - then only have Canada and the US in the thing. But for my part, it's BORING, BORING, TEDIOUS, BORING. I'd rather they just blanked the screen for 90 minutes or showed the test card like in the olden days... Or pictures of a kitten playing with a ball of string... Or anything really, just not a load of men grappling eachother without the fun of sequinned lurex (which at least you get, in wrestling, say...) And whilst I'm at it, why do their wives/girlfriends all look like drag queens?

Drags Queens? ha ha you are right! They do!

Tomorrow someone at work is going to be very sad! It is Italy versus Ghana tonight.

We have two Italians in our Dept and the cleaner is from Ghana! Unless I watch it I won't know who to avoid tomorrow!! I asked her who she was supporting. She said Ghana first then when they lose, England! I said not to think like that, you never know, Ghana may win!! The resident Greek God is not fussed by footie and anyway Greece are not in it apparently. I haven't seen the Frenchman for a while but I expect France is playing and he will be watching.

Althoguh I don't tend to watch I quite like the celebrations. One year on a bus in Peckham the traffic was at a standstill. There were loads of Nigerians out on the street and in the road- obviously celebrating even though they lost!!

The problem with having a UK team is that aside from Ryan Giggs who plays for Wales the team would all be English anyway

I'm really sorry, and I tried to prevent it, but I'm football mad. I dusted out the old Australian flag this morning and I've hung it outside the house. I turned on the telly just before 2pm and sung my national anthem. And our boys won, 3 to 1, woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring on Brazil...........sigh..........

I hate football - I am sure it contributed to my divorce from the first Mr Sarah.

The present Mr Sarah loves football but knows better than to watch or talk about it all the time.

About the flags - personally I don't mind them on houses but I'm sure that the flags on the cars are distracting for drivers and I'm surprised they are allowed.

I saw the Australian match it was good. At least they scored some goals unlike England who had to rely on an own goal.

Ex Mr Phat was half italian and football mad, so I'm relieved to not have him around any more as it got really boring. He's slag off England say how ugly English people were etc (I'm English) pretend to support Italy but then support England anyway. I couldn't help noticing the Italians weren't even goodlooking anyway - some of them were ginger.
