The following is what she posted for us the week of Memorial Day in green and the most recent on June 5 is in red. Thank you lovely gals for all the prayers for her!
Things could be going better at my house. Took my dh back to hospital on Monday and he'll be there another 2-3 weeks at least. Brought him home on Tuesday. Wednesday the home health care nurse said his leg looked infected. She and I both tried calling md for 4 days with it getting worse and him not calling back. Monday she said take him to emergency. MD comes in and takes one look and says wow didn't think it was this bad. Need to get plastic surgeon to open incision, clean it out and get infection under control. I asked him is his malpractice insurace was paid up because he had neglected to return the nurse's call for days. Ended up getting an infectious disease specialist who has dh on 3 different antibiotics that are specifically compounded for what is causing the infections, his weight, history etc. by IV and they are also giving him antibiotics by mouth. He has a tube stuck into his thigh that sucks the infectious stuff out constantly. They put him into a special bed that he says is like sleeping in a raft - it's literally a rectangular box made of vinyl that is filled with air and water and every 2 hours it turns him to the other side. If the infection gets into the graft, he'll have to have his leg amputated at the hip.
My dh is in for more surgery sometime this week - a skin graft to close the wound from his knee to hip and surgery to remove part of the heel on his left foot. The infection has spread there. This morning they have 2 technicians coming to draw blood, take it about 60 miles to a special lab, make it radio active, comeback and put it back in him. Then they will do a special xray what will tell them if it's just tissue or tissue and bone that is infected and they will know how much has to be removed. It all is another scary thing to me. He's actually in good spirits and very positive which is the best thing at this point.
