A "social" reward for meeting your weight loss goals is the compliments you get! It's great to have someone not recognize you, or do a double take and say "WOW! You look amazing!" but there are the other kinds of compliments too...the really bizarre ones that may not sound like compliments, but they are meant in the best possible way. Funny, sincere...let's hear about the positive reactions of other people that help make YOU feel good I have a couple, and I'd love to hear yours!

An old friend of the family: "Holy smokes! You're like half a girl now!"

One of my best friends' fathers: "You're a shadow of your former self"

Ok...heres one from a male co-worker "Wow...your loseing weight arent you" Yes..thank you....."Oh no...no thank-you!....smoking girl" Haha.

My sister said "you look great but maybe a little too skinny". She's jealous, so I took this as a compliment. It's the best she can do. LOL

Well I had one tonight, and I am absolutely on a cloud! My friend knew I was planning to have breast reduction surgery, and I really am not exaggerating at the hugeness and embarrassment they cause... really to the point of being grotesque!

Well... I had not seen her for quite a while and tonight she walked into the room where I was sitting and came up behind me and smiled and asked if I had had a loss. I thought she meant my weight loss and thanked her... well later when we were chatting I realized what she meant... she thought I had had the surgery!!! Yay! Absolutely made my DAY! They have gone down a LOT... with the 41 pounds I've gone down 3 band sizes... but had no idea anyone could possibly think THAT!!! I've still got a long way to go... but this made all the hard work worth it!!!! Yipppppeeee!!! A compliment worth waiting for!! Tee hee, and I know it made my friend feel really good that she had brightened up my day so much!!!!

I wonder what the heck is wrong with me...I can't STAND if anybody compliments me on weight loss. I really get upset & embarassed. If someone says, "Wow you lost weight", what I HEAR is "Wow -- you really needed to lose weight". It doesn't make sense, I know. I'm not like that with anything else...If someone says, "Hey, I like your haircut", I don't think they mean my hair was really ugly before, so I wonder why I am like that with weight loss. Either I don't like the attention, or I need counseling.

I don't think you are alone in that, mudbugs! I have heard that mentioned several times in threads here and there. Some people just feel that way, and that's okay, too... just try not to smack anyone!

There's a lady that works with my husband, and I meet the both of them for lunch about once a week... every time she sees me now she tells me how great I look and she always giggles at me whenever she sees me tugging at my loose pants. Good stuff! But the best compliments are always the unexpected ones. Like, my husband rarely says anything, unless I comment about some drop on the scale first... except for some rare, every once and a while thing he'll pull me into his arms and say something wonderful about how I look or feel. That always makes me cry...

LOL I'll take all the compliments I can get about my weight loss! After all I KNOW I was/am fat and every pound I beat off that shows to someone else is a positive accomplishment and mini success story! Just my opinion.

My sister came over w/ my nephew and he gave me a hug. So then he runs over to my sister and loudly whispers, "mom, I can hug aunt sharon all the way now" meaning that his hands can touch. After he left the room my sister and I laughed.

I definitely used to feel uncomfortable when people complimented me as well...I felt like, "Oh no...everyone's noticing the change, so my weight must have been a big part of how they saw me." I really had to come to terms with the fact that I WAS too overweight, that I didn't just need to lose a pound or two. Eventually, it got to the point where even really blunt statements like, "SOMEONE has lost a lot of weight!" made me feel good instead of just self-conscious.

I've had the biggest positive reactions from my co-workers, including my old lead, my old supervisor, my new manager and the mail guy! My old lead said to me the other day " You are getting so skinny!" That one felt good.

My girlfriends are very tactful about it, they never say stuff like 'oh, you lost so much weight', they always say 'you're really looking great', which I like, because it doesn't make me feel they thought I looked fat before.

Nowadays, if I notice that someone has lost weight when I go to Curves, I don't comment directly on the weight, I just tell them they're looking good. They might say 'I've lost 'x' amount of weight' so then I'll just tell them it shows and they should keep up the good work.

Whenever I think to myself someone is looking nice I like to let them know, because I know how good it makes ME feel when I get a compliment.

I can still remember two compliments I received years ago (long after the people who made them have forgotten). One girlfriend said she was jealous of my high cheekbones - I had always thought they were non-existent! Another friend commented that she'd never noticed that I had lovely green 'cat eyes'! Little things mean a lot - it doesn't take much effort and it just might make someones day!

I agree! I used to get embarrassed when someone mentioned my weight (years ago) until I realized I was (and still am) fat and I have to do something about it. It might of taken me awhile but I am doing it and I love all the compliments I receive because that let's me know people have noticed I am changing for the better and it's great.

I've had so many people comment about it and I love them all.

Ya know I'm not sure what it is about me.... I'm the lead singer in a coverband, Me and three guys. After 30 lbs gone and not a word mentioned I finally said " Hello!!! I have lost 30 lbs in 6 weeks!" They all said "yeah we can tell"....great thanks, and have I told you to bite me today? Two of my best friends and my sister did the same thing. As soon as I mention it they were all about talking on how good I look and so on. I think it has to do with not wanting to hurt my feelings about the initial weight like Mudbugs was talkin' about...but it doesn't bother me. What bothers me is feeling like all my hard work is going un-noticed!

I will never tire of the compliments. It sounds very bigheaded to say that, but I have waited a LONG time to hear compliments, so I am just bathing in the glow of them.

I have many people not recognise me at first, and only work out who I am when they see hubby. A few people have said that when they first saw hubby they thought he had found another woman. That is always fun to hear.

I told a colleague the other day that people were laughing at me because I told them I was FREEZING since I had lost all of my 'insulation'. I was commenting that I wasn't getting a lot of sympathy. "That's because you look so stunning now!" she said. I think she meant that I looked better, so people knew that I didn't really need sympathy... or something like that. I don't think I've ever been called 'stunning' before. It felt really good.

When my FIL came from Canada for a visit, he didn't recognise me at the airport, and I had to tell him who I was. He just stood there stunned, and said "Where's the other half of you?" I thought that was cute.

There are so many more compliments that I have received, and every one of them puts a smile on my face. I have EARNED each and every one of them, and I will continue to accept them graciously. Vain, I know, but I can't help myself at the moment.

I love hearing about other people's compliments too, because I know how wonderful they make you (most of you) feel. For those of you who are uncomfortable with the compliments, remember that they come from the heart, so please don't just brush them aside. The person giving that compliment needs to know that you understand it was not given lightly. Please try to thank them, even if you don't feel 'right' about receiving the compliment. I'm sure that they are not meaning to emphasize that you were 'fat' before. They may just not know how to word it in a better way.

I agree and will never tire of the compliments. I get quite a few of them now and especially like the "your'e so skinny" compliment. I worked for it and deserve them and am proud to accept them. It doesn't matter to me that the people who notice probably thought I was very fat before, I WAS.
