Thyroid Problems

  • I posted in the chat a couple weeks ago about going to the doctor for painful periods. Well they did blood tests and I get a call today with the results. They said it's my THYROID. The nurse didn't go into any more detail but told me to make another appointment to discuss it with the doctor.

Although he didn't say, I'm assuming it's hypothyroidism, not hyper. Hypo causes long, heavy periods, depression, lethargy, and slow metabolism. All of which I have. I go back on Wednesday to talk to the doctor, so we'll see how it goes.

So I'm guessing this is a good thing that I've been diagnosed, but I'm pretty nervous.

Anyone else on here have it? I know it's been talked about on other places on the board but I wanted to see if any of my 20-something chickies were in the same boat.
  • I know a couple of people with hypothyroidism and they all went on Synthroid and have had great relief. One of them even lost some weight after starting. If it will make you feel better, taking one pill a day will be easy peasy
  • I am surprised that you weren't checked earlier. For me, my docs checked my 3!! times (I guess they just didn't want to accept that I was fat because I was taking in more cals than I was expending!).

I don't know anything about it really, but I am sure other chickies do!

Here is a hug for good luck with it and any other support that you need!
