OK so We just finished painting our living room and dinning room...whew!!! big job!
So now the delema is pictures....where to put them how to arrange them...


basically the livingroom layout is this... along the back of the house there are 2 huge windows, separate, with wall space between and on either side. to the right there is one wall, to the left a fire place with wall space on either side...

I don't know it that was clear or not, I will try to upload a picture...

we have many different sized picture frames... I am thinking along the lines of makeing one wall all friends/family and the rest like artsy type pictures...??? but I still have no idea how to arrange them...

I like the seperating the family and friends,,,I do that and call it my wall of fame. Ill even go so far as to put ticket stubs into the frame with a friend or family member who I went with to the show or concert. Memories...lol
As for the other artsy pics,,,I was always told you do your pictures to how you are. If you are very structered then you might want to get the level and tape measure. If you are more go with the flow,,,then hang them unstructered. (all levels) What color did you paint the walls?

I am not really "Structured" but I am no unstructured either...I was thinking about doing all different levels, with all balck frames sort of like a collage??

The colour reminds me of a chocolate milkshake! haha!!!

Arranging Pictures

This link sounds a little like what you are after - a mix and match, but the frames have been coordinated to look similar through painting them the same colour. I like this effect.

Matching Frames

I am planning something similar to what you mentioned. I have a stack of b&w candid family shots that I want to make into a wall of pictures. Using black frames and white mounting board. All the same size frames and all landscape.

I am no designer, but my sister is so I've gotten lots of professional help. A lot of how you arrange your pictures will depend on how tall your ceilings are. One thing my sister called to my attention (and I was guilty of this) is that a lot of people hang their art/pictures too high, especially if their walls are tall. Also, a big consideration is scale. It is better to have a few big pictures if the wall is big and empty (no windows, etc.) rather than lots and lots of little pictures - you don't want them to swallow each other up.

Pottery Barn used to have a rod with detachable frames that could be arranged in a variety of ways. It was great because the pictures just slid in from the top so you could change out what you display very easily.

Final tip: Choose your frames and arrange them on the floor first. When it is time to hang take the time to measure and use a level.
