10,000 Steps

  • My friend gave me an Amazon Gift Certificate for my b-day. So I went and purchases a pedometer. I am a stay at home who never realized how much sitting around I actually do. I have always been very active, but since the kiddies (2yrs and 1yr), I never realized that all I do is sit around exhausted all day.

The pedometer has set me straight. When I first put it on, I thought, 10,000 steps so problem. I reality was shocking.

    Day 1 -- I struggle for 5081 steps
Day 2 --2638, but I did nap because I wasn't feeling well and forgot to put it back on afer my nap.
    Day 3 -- 4139
    Day 4 -- 6501
Day 5 -- 2685, but forgot to wear it most of the day
Day 6 --7773 Steps, yestedat and 3409 were aerobic steps

I haven't hit 10,000 yet, but my eyes are open and that is my goal.
  • I started nannying here out in LI and I know that when you are with the kids you tend to sit around alot and get restless quickly.... DONT DO IT.... I start off with coffee in the morning and go go go and keep out of the house until noon and then do an activity in the afternoon until dinner time. It keeps you going and gives you a plan.... oh yeh and you ALSO dont sit around the house to snack either....
    keep up the great work!!!
  • I have been thinking about a pedometer, and now I really want one, I wonder how many steps I take in a day. I try to get away from my desk as much as possible at work, and once I get home I don't sit until 8:30 or 9:00. I am going to go order one right now. Thanks for motivating me to get it.
  • What a great idea!WTG!!!You'll reach your goal in no time!!!
  • I should start writing mine down, too. I have a desk job that requires zero steps per day, so I found that my regular daily activity was about 5,000 steps a day.
  • The pedometers are a great way to measure your steps! When I first got mine I had to work at 10,000 per day too but now I am hardly ever under at least 13,000-14,000 or more! It does motivate you when you see what you are doing.

I highly recommend the Omron HJ-112 which was recommended to me here at 3FC. With it you can also measure your aerobic steps and calculate your steps per minute. I got mine on Amazon.com.
  • I just want you to know that I did go on amazon.com and purchased the Omron HJ-112. And I am very excited about getting it!

Misti in Seattle, I am wondering how you got the cyberlocation do daddy on your signature.

hope every one is havign a great day!
  • Wow! Your steps progress looks awesome!! please keep it going and I know you will meet that 10,000 steps goal! You just lifted my spirits up on getting out tomorrow and steppin!! Thank you for posting your steps progress and happy stepping!!
  • I got my Pedometer tonight! I clipped it on my belt at 7m and it is now 10: and I have 2612 steps.I don't think that is all that bad. it is a good start, I go to the gym in the mornings and just play with the kids at night, so I think I did good! happy stepping ladies!
  • This pedometer is great! I love it! I am so glad I got it!

Yesterday I took it off while shopping- I know that sounds dumb but I was carrying my 1 yr old and she kept pulling it off, and I never put it back on. I remembered about half way through our walk, so i am sure I would have gotten real close to 10,000 steps I had 6707 when I took it off.

I have over 6 the day before too!

Today I am going to hit it I know I am.

Thanks for starting this thread, I may have never bought one if it wasn't for you guys!
  • Me thinks im gonna have to go out and by myself one
  • You all have inspired me to get a pedometer. I am a SAHM, and I know that I sit around too much. Do I leave this on when I get on the treadmill?
  • My company started a corporate walking plan and handed out a bunch of pedometers. So far since March 17th I have walk over 550,000 steps which is equivalent to 209 miles! Most days I don't get 10,000 steps, but as long as I get close I think it is a good day....

    Good luck to everyone!
