Calorie Counting Newbie

  • Hello!

I've been reading this forum for weeks and finally decided to join in. You all are a great inspiration for re-motivating myself... and for finding new ideas for that all-consuming task of cooking food I LIKE so that I don't cheat.

I started counting calories in January and have so far lost 29 pounds. I find that I think of calories like money-- what do I have in my budget today, how much have I spent, and how will I get the most bang for my buck?

An area I need some help with is in getting out of my chair and exercising, so if any of you want to nag me, please feel free.
  • I will!!!!

I am not much of an exerciser either, but I know that it's key to weight loss, so I have started walking. Problem is..I don't have the time. I work full time and have an active 5 year old at home. So I have started walking a couple times a day for just 15 - 20 min. I just started on Monday, but it doesn't seem such a time hog when you split it up!!

    What activities do you enjoy?
  • Thanks for the encouraging words!

I used to walk a lot because I live in NYC-- and walking is just part of getting to and from work everyday, as well as shopping, laundry, etc. But for the past year I have had a job out in New Jersey necessitating a rental car (and a hideous 2 hour commute). So all that daily walking is out the window-- the commute is long and I try to do most of my errands on the way home from work.

I am not a big fan of exercise at all-- my idea of a satisfying workout is to read a book. :-)

I like your idea of walking for 15 - 20 minutes a day, though. I can probably build that into my lunch hour. The client I am working for is located on a big campus with a trail around the grounds...

Now I just have to make myself DO it!
