Any super-sized cyclists out there?

  • I weigh a little over 350, and want to buy a bicycle (not an exercycle, but a regular bike). Does anyone my size or heavier out there cycle, and what kind of bike do you have (and if you don't mind sharing, how expensive was it).

I'm afraid a Walmart special won't hold me, but I'm a little hesitant to go into the cycle shops without a little info. I can't seem to find much info on the internet regarding the weight limits of typical bikes, and don't want to hurt myself (or the bike).
  • Colleen - I am not a biker (balance is not one of my strong points) but I remembered this thread from awhile back that might be helpful: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70279

If I were to buy something, I would probably go for something like this: http://www.bikemania.biz/Tri_Rider_I...industrial.htm
I think trikes are really cool.
  • That is so cool. I'd heard of the trikes, but imagined that they looked more like kid's tricycles. Thanks!
  • Kaplods,

I read about a man that was around your weight asking about good bikes to ride and he wasn't sure if he should even try it, the answer was definately try it! Try a bike shop and they should be more than happy to help you out! There are stronger tires (wheels? always confuses me) out there that you can have put on a bike! The frames on mountain bikes seem to be sturdy!

Girl, I say go for it! You got nothin to lose but the weight! I started riding almost a month ago and I'm LOVING it!!!! You'll be amazed at how fast you can feel better and have it a little easier on a bike!

I hope you decide to try it! The inches seem to be really coming off me and biking is my main exercise!!

  • I have a schwinn cruiser http://www.schwinnbike.com/products/...gory.php?id=82 and it works for me (about your weight). I think they are awfully cute, and the bigger seat is nice for my butt

But they arent good for hills or anything like that. have flat roads and I just ride with kids and stuff (still a pretty good work out)

I have a Walmart special. Bought it seven or eight years ago and it was less than $100.00 (maybe closer to $60.00) It's a Mongoose and I love it. Big knobby tires and a shock absorber for my bottom. I did, however, buy a bigger more comfortable gel seat for my big turtle butt. I just got it out and had my first ride of the season yesterday. I hope I've helped you. I'm currently around 240 but was much larger on it before. Good luck to you and best wishes on your journey.
