    Who has the book?

I picked it up yesterday and couldn't wait to start reading.
  • I have two copies
  • I've read it, and I love it! (I am SO not saying that because I'm a moderator here, btw. heh heh) It's so entertaining!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! (love the recipes... they're cozy...)
  • Two copies, Leenie? Let me guess. One copy has things underlined and highlighted... stuff written in the margin. The other is as pristine as the day you bought it.. a clean copy to lend to others.

    Am I even close?

I haven't read the whole thing yet but read the first part and of course the Mediterranean section. I think that section was done very well. It is a shame that there was no time to include Sonoma. So I wound up buying the Sonoma book as well.

After my purchases and reading a little I realized how helpful this book would be to people who want to research and compare different plans and also get the inside scoop from people who follow these plans.

Humorous... absolutely! page 12 had me rolling

About weight loss devices and snake oils:

"Believe us, a pinky ring will not make your butt smaller."
  • Jayde~ I had not told that I had two copies yet, but you nailed me.. tooooo funnny ROFL
  • I'm waiting anxiously for my copy. It sounds so awesome.

NOPE I actually bought one for my sister

I have not had a chance to read it yet but I did skim thru it. The only free time I have is when I'm on the john... hmmmmmmmmm. LOLOL!!!! jk
  • A passage I highlighted in my book (page 10):

"When you're feeling deprived on a diet, try thinking about the things that you are adding to your life, rather than the things that you are subtracting."

It is probably easy for us to fall into the trap of feeling deprived. Looking towards the positive helps us to see that we are really adding to our life by making adjustments to unhealthy patterns. It doesn't take long for me to see that I am not depriving myself after all.
  • OK, I'm sold. I don't "need" another diet book, but I think I must have this one.
  • Phantastica, I think if many of us had this kind of book long ago, we'd have a lot less "diet" books. Sometimes I buy a nutrition book or diet book because I am so curious and also want to better understand what people are talking about. Since I need to highlight stuff the library is out of the question.

I probably spend more money at the book store in a year than my family spends to watch movies.
  • The next time you feel a bit discouraged about your progress keep this in mind:

"Most of the Web sites devoted to the Med diet focus on it not as a way to lose weight but as a way to regain health, and especially to protect our hearts. It is a healthier way to live." ~3 Fat Chicks~ p. 230

In measuring my progress the outside appearance of my body is a good indicator of how well I am doing, but yesterday I started thinking about all the changes going on inside me. I started thinking that my heart was beginning to thank me, "Hey, you've lost some mass.. 14 pounds of it.. thanks for making my job pumping blood a little easier.!" Or my ankles and knees, "Hey, babe. Kudos to you! We don't have to work so hard supporting you!" Or my liver, "Sweetie pie, I just love that you aren't sending so much toxic stuff my way! I feel like I am on vacation. Keep it up, babe!"

And I kudoed them right back! Thank you to all the stuff inside me for doing your job to keep me up and running and healthy and happy. I am going to do my job to make it easier on all of us.

Health was my initial motivation to eat better and exercise more, and I still think it's the most important aspect. Eating Med has got to result in some amazing changes inside that perhaps are not apparent on the outside. For myself, my bp went from borderline to very healthy in just a few months. My cholesterol also dropped.

I think that all of you who follow this way of eating are giving yourselves the very best gift possible. You're nurturing yourselves with delightful foods full of nutrients. So what if the weight doesn't come off as quickly as it does for the person who eats the low-fat and/or low-carb processed garbage? In the long run, who will have better health? And who will be more likely to maintain the loss?
  • Where I can Find that book?? Can I find it in PR?
  • Quote: Where I can Find that book?? Can I find it in PR?
PR? I don't know what that is.. 3 Fat Chicks just came out a few weeks ago. I bought mine at Barnes and Nobles but you can get one at Amazon just by clicking on the icon next to this screen.. Do you see the ad?
  • Sf40, I congrats on changing your bp and cholesterol numbers for the better in such a short time. I am amazed at how many people take medication for that but eat junk all day.

I am not in a big hurry to lose the weight, but I am in a hurry to feel better and be healthy. I take it one day at a time, and "enjoy the journey"!
    Love your goal!
