Ok, so I bought a mini bike and that broke within ten minutes. Bought a full blown exercise bike from Argos and that broke within half an hour. Its like a sign, Ive bin in tears all night!

Boyfriend seemed to find it so entertaining and I got shouted at for breaking the bike.

Hmmm....that's strange. I weighed alot more then you when I started using a bike and I didnt brake them. Maybe it's just the brand? Do you have a warrenty on them?

Sounds like the bikes were crappy. If you can afford it, go to a bike or sports shop, tell them what you want, and ask what would be good for you.

OK, so my 6 foot tall, 185 lb completely athletic husband has BROKEN not one, but TWO bikes in his lifetime. It isn't about your size, it is about the bike. If the frame broke, as both bikes did on my husband (BOTH times while he was outside riding), it was a poor weld and A FAULTY BIKE. It has very little to do with your size. It has to do with the crappy bike. Go back to the store, point out the break, and claim your rights to an exchange. Keep smiling!

Awww LOOpy yeah it has NOTHING to do with you, its that theyre trying to soak profits by using cheapo materials/design/etc. I hope you can get money back?
I bought the cheapest elliptical at the store, I hope it doesnt break!!!!!!!!!! The weight limit is in the 200s so I will tell myself it is NOT my weight but that even a 110lb person would have broken it.

The weight limit on the second bike i bought was 18 stone, im just under 12 now. It had nothing to do with my weight, the chain keeps becoming slack and it makes a tapping noise like it shouldnt. Dad took it apart and adjusted the first time, but 10 mins after it done it again. It wasn't even the cheapest bike in the store! Its very disheartening tho.

Then all you have is a mechanical issue, probably involving the deraillier (thingee that keeps the chain on the gear and keeps it going around). It probably needs adjustment. Take it to a bike shop for a proper fix. Did I mention that my husband and one of his friends spent two months bicycling ACROSS CANADA two summers ago? They bicycled 7500km from Vancouver to Halifax, averaging 150km per day. My husband's friend not only broke the frame on his bike, he broke the seat post and destroyed four wheels (not tires, WHEELS - when the spokes snapped one by one). They had to stop every so often and repair "Hannibal the Cannibal", which is what they named the bike, because the only way that the bike could be fixed at the bike shops they visited was by cannibilizing up another bike for parts. Oh, and his bike cost him over 1000 pounds ($2000 Cdn) brand new, and was a heavy-duty endurance bike...

Oh, I forgot to mention that when my husband's friend broke his seat post, his bike seat came COMPLETELY off. They were 15 km away from the nearest town (about 10 miles) so he had to do the distance STANDING UP ON HIS BIKE!!!

DON'T GIVE UP! The same thing happened to me! I had a small exercise bike that i used while watching t.v and that broke. I used to dance for exercise but then my stereo broke! I used to jog/run around the neighborhood but now they're doing construction work and the streets are covered with sand and dust (they're adding sidewalks so running on them is out of the question). So many things are blocking me from going on with this diet/exercise plan but i'm not giving up. no matter what. i know how crappy it feels when you want to do something but it seems like everything's keeping you from doing it. but no matter what, don't give up. this will pass.

I went and bought a second hand bike from the local rag. Its cheap and cheerful, but hopefully it will last. My uncle bought the same bike yesterday and he has exactly the same problem today!
