Scale Addiction :: Now I'm worried!

  • I weighed in on Monday(Both at WW and at home) at 241.5

I had tried so hard not to touch the thing until next weigh in... I didn't want to at all! But tonight I was bad and did it

    And it said 237.5

Now, I've stayed on plan every day (exactly hitting my points allowance, and trying to fulfill the water/oil/fruits/veggies numbers. But that seems excessive!

I know it doesn't actually count until weigh in, but that just seems excessive to me...
  • Your first couple week's will yield you larger losses as your body sheds water weight. Then it should slow down. If it doesn't.... lucky you....no just kidding if it doesn't slow down talk to your leader about adjusting your points ect.

Plus you can't really compare one scale to another. I weigh myself daily often more than once a day. Our leader says it's ok (not WW's stand on it though) as long as it's not ruling our mood. It helps me see my progress. This far into this, if I step on it feeling junky and deprived and see a loss it helps me keep going, if I see a gain it helps me keep going. My logic may not be real well...logical, but it works for me. If seeing them num bers depresses you, hide the scale somewhere you can't easily accsess it. Often mine is in the garage

Great jb on staying on plan...keep it up!!!!!
  • I'm just going to agree with Misty on this one. I didn't even own a scale until I joined WW. And I too look at it every day, sometimes more. The losses I have help me to stay focused and the gains help get me back on track. Sometimes in the same day. Your weight can flucuate all day, even within a few minutes. So use it to your advantage but don't let it rule you.

And don't worry about the amount of loss. Yes, if it were week 10 and you had that kind of loss then it'd be extreme but for week 1 it's not too bad. I lost 5lbs the first week that I truly worked the program and my sister lost almost 7lbs.

    Just keep swimming...it'll work out.
  • You can realize the fluctuations the body makes daily or even hourly scale addition can be not as bad as you think. I have an article called "Why the Scale Lies" which makes good reading and good insight. I'll post it again (but I've posted it a bunch of times here if you search you could find it).

Like someone said the first 1-3 weeks you can have larger losses as your body starts releasing retained water along with the fat. It is not odd or unusual for the first week of someone who has a lot of weight to lose to lose up to 10-12 pounds the first week.
  • Thanks for the reassurance!

I think that if I saw a slight gain, I would be motivated to try harder! (Although we'll see if that's actually the case!) Of course, I won't count anything as truth until my WW weigh in
