Interesting article on the dangers of abdominal fat

  • Thought this was interesting, especially for those of us who are "apples"...

  • Yuck. I've always gained weight in an apple form. The waist is my biggest problem area. But I've also never had a waist, no matter how skinny I was (136 pounds, 5'6", and no waist), so I've always thought that's why I gain there.

Looks like I'll have to bulk up on the sit-ups.... <sigh>
  • Thanks - interesting read.

At least it indicates that this kind is the quickest to go & improve health - woohoo!
  • I've always been pear shaped but now that I'm losing or toning I'm losing my hips and the belly is staying going down a bit but still there. I hope was time goes by it does go down.

It was a very informative article. I'd read bits and pieces in other places but this put it all together. I will have to print it off for motivation.
  • Oy. Reading articles like that help keep me in line since I'm an apple shape. I guess. I am never really sure where to measure when they say 'waist' because I have my hips, my waist (where pants go up to, at my belly button) and then I have everything above my belly button (which is where a disproportionate amount of my fat is). But I would never call that my waist, as who has a waist up around their rib cage?? But my lower ribcage is my biggest area, and I'm betting that it's the bad kind of fat.
  • I've never been sure if I am considered an apple or a pear. I'm 5'6", 308 lbs, with a 44DD chest and lots of bellyfat. I definitely have a waist, but my hips are not that much out of line with my waist.
  • I think that explains a lot. I was very frustrated when I started losing weight and mainly lost it around the middle. In 70 lbs, I lost over 10 inches around my waist. After that though the weight loss and inch loss slowed down. I wanted to lose more weight on my arms and thighs.

I'm kind of a slight pear. I have a defined waist, chest bigger than waist but not by much, hips bigger than waist and chest, about 10 inches bigger than my waist.
