I have taste buds!

  • So I recently posted that I lost 72 pounds in about 1 1/3 years. I could post hundreds (or at least dozens) of new discoveries, skills, abilities and fun activities that have cropped up since then - and one day when I'm settled into the new house I will.

But this one I just had to share. Our organization catered lunch at a staff function Monday from Wegman's, a regional supermarket for the upper Eastern US. They are my very favorite market, although pricy on many items . I filled up mostly on fruit and a small roast beef sandwich with a lovely roast red pepper seasoning. But I tried 2 items I had hated all last year - and it turns out I LOVE them now.

One was a yogurt based fruit tart, with lots of fresh berries.

The second is this phenomenal salad called "Wings of Life". It's a greek or meditteranean salad with spinach, feta, many lettuces, mesculine, olives and sunflower seeds. They served it with the BEST dressing I have ever tasted - an oil based dressing with seeped tomatoes, sunflower oil, more feta and other seasonings.

I allowed myself to get foisted into bringing the giant salad platter and remaining dressing home. I split it with my counsin for her family. Then the DF and I each had a serving before dinner. We probably have 2 servings left - and I plan on those being gone by the end of the day. **I AM being very careful to use minimal dressing although it tastes wonderful - fat is still fat, though this is the much healthier kind!

Last year, I ALWAYS hated feta, and ANY lettuce other than iceberg. The only dressing I could stomach was French or Catalina. The fruit on the tart was bitter ! NOW - I love it all.

When we change of diets and lifes over the long haul - replacing junk foods with healthy ones, we are actually detoxing our body from all of the nasty additives, chemicals and artificial materials. I've been told, after a period of time it's 100% normal to experience a change in our food preferences and tastes.

I am pround to announce that after 16 months

    I HAVE TASTE BUDS!!

Any other new taste experiences to share out there?
  • Come on Ladies - I know I'm not the only one eating new foods out here

  • I have just started my weight loss journey but I am already eating something that I have never liked before. Cottage cheese!!! I've never liked the consistency but now I like it a lot. It kind of reminds me of a salty dessert.
  • That is TOTALLY one of the foods I eat now. It tasted all weird and bitter before (probably the whey) - but now it's one of my best 'healthy snack' foods.

I eat Tops brand 1% small curd - I would prefer big curd, but that's only available in full fat
  • I used to hate yogurt, now I LOVE it! I have one every day. Lots of different fruit varieties to choose from. My favourites are apricot, peaches and cream, apple and cinnamon and dark cherry.

I used to hate red peppers (ANY kind of peppers) and now I LOVE them.

I have actually found that I like my vegetables raw and with no seasoning at all. I LOVE the flavour of vegetables. I never realised that before because I was always disguising them with sauces.

I'm sure there are others, but that is enough to start with.

    Interesting thread.

    Take care,

    Zelma
  • Oh I so use to hate cottage cheese. But I tried some a few months ago and it was soooo good. So I always have a small tub of it to keep back my night time snacking.
I like the dry curds (with no whey) but it's costs a lot more for some strange reason. @_@
  • I havent experienced this taste-change phenomenon yet, but I just wanted to say that WEGMANS ROCKS!!! i love that store
  • veggie burgers and veggie sausage...used to say no way would I eat that "fake" food lol Now they are a regular part of what I eat
  • My mother made some sort of sugar free orange jello mousse type dessert for Easter, with fresh pureed rasberries on top.I've never liked orange anything and the sugar free things usually taste odd...but it was divine! Especially with the tart rasberries, that again,I'd normally scoff at.

I've also liked within the past year, sun dried tomatoes in foods, and roasted red peppers....yummmm!
  • oh ym god, cardiomonster , I LOVE WEGMANS!!! I have to agree with you, some of there foods (like, deli or prepared) are pricey but for the most part, wegmans offers good prices and sales! I could just go on and on and on about how i love Wegmans.....
